No vice-captains for West Coast

The West Coast Eagles are sticking with last year’s leadership formula, retaining Ben Cousins as the captain and having no vice-captains.
West Coast’s system, while not as revolutionary (so to speak) as St Kilda’s system where a new captain is appointed each year, is still an unusual one in a league where captains, vice-captains and even deputy-vice-captains are the norm.
“We’ll go with the same set up as last year,” Worsfold said before training on Wednesday afternoon at Subiaco Oval, where it continues to be hot.
“I think it’s a positive for us – you add guys like Daniel Chick with his experience, alongside Glen Jakovich, Drew Banfield and Ashley McIntosh, and other players that are showing good leadership, like Phillip Matera, and then the younger crew coming through, that’s led by Michael Gardiner – I think all those guys deserve an equal say.”
And Worsfold is sure that McIntosh isn’t about to follow his old mate Peter Matera this season.
“He’s in as good a shape as I’ve seen him, and as much as he’s another year older, he’s very aware of how to manage himself, and we are as well, so I’m very confident there.”
There’s only one WAFL game on in town this weekend, but it’ll be worth taking a look at.
Exciting West Coast defender David Wirrpunda will play for the Falcons in order to get some more game time under his belt, and he’ll be joined several team-mates who need either the game-time or the experience.
Well, Personally the only problem I have with this is that I think Jako should be given a title. I like the no vice captain idea- it probably is good because atleast the buck stops with Cuz if stuff happens that shouldnt. The only change id make is to make Jako a co captain!
