For Essendon supporters the good news is that the Herald Sun can reveal both Pears and fellow key defender Cale Hooker have both signed two-year deals this week.

Fantastic! Wouldn't have expected them to go anywhere but these two along with Hurley are going to form the nucleus of our backline for the next decade.

Just on Hooker, why hasn't he received a nomination either?

He's had some solid games this year; I fear his move to the ruck possibly killed any chance he had.

As excited as i am about Pears, he already looked good last year and showed he had what it took to make it. I've been more excited with Hooker this year, he was just looking a bit like a list filler, and he has came on in huge amounts this year. Gotta wonder whether Richardson has been involved with Hooker this year?

Very excited about the signings too. Can't wait until next year when all these young guns have settled into their roles and we start clicking as a team. Good signs for the future.
