Clarke?

Dez!

I would actually take Clarke ahead of Pietersen.

I do like the acknowledgement of Shakib Al Hasan.

Yeh, cool. Not really into Bangladeshi cricket.

Is he a fast bowler? Spinner? Bat in the top six?

Left arm-orthodox bowling allrounder.

In the last year has averaged 40.23 with the bat and 24.71 with the ball in a side that is very, very, very average.

Ah, I love a good Best XI thread! :D

Not much I can fault with this team... Probably have Chanderpaul at #4 and slot Pup and AB down one spot each. But at this stage, I'd have the same personel.

Maybe Mendis for Murali just for something different?

And now that I that I think about it. Younis Khan would be stiff not to get a place:

Gautam Gambhir
Graeme Smith
Kumar Sangakkara
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Michael Clarke
AB De Villiers
Shakib Al Hasan
Mitchell Johnson
Dale Steyn
Muttiah Muralitharan
Shane Bond

Id like to add Dilshan's name to the World XI one day team. has been in dashing form.

Cant argue with any of the teams up there.

Cant have shane bond there, hasnt played a test in a while
Sharma isnt good enough

Bowling talent is pretty poor in world cricket at the moment, not much after Steyn for quicks and not much after murali or mendis as far as spinners go.

Eh, you can a bit. It's much easier to make big score when you've got partners around you, and it's much easier to take wickets when there's someone decent at the other end.

Blame that on the roads that every pitch is these days.

Plus if you're a good bowler in a shit side you can be overbowled, which ruins your stats. See Vettori for an example.

Broad? FFS sake he had one good test, they wanted him dropped a couple of tests ago. No way he is world XI material

That took longer than I thought to get a response !

I actually did not who else to put in at that spot so I stuck him there. Possibly Zaheer Khan would be a good option.

Broad is a very good player though. I wasn't calling for him to be dropped. He found the style of bowling that suits him in the last test and will be in the top few bowlers in the world shortly.

I agree on Broad, I wouldn't have him in a world XI yet, but he will be a very very good bowler.

Actually averaged 41.5 in the last 12 months.

So someone who averages over 40 for the year does not make the world 11 yet a quick bowler who played his last test in 2007 does? Does not make much sense to me..

I am not saying i think Ponting should be in the side i just think your selection reasoning is a little strange.

On those grounds Mendis shouldn't make it either, having taken 16 wickets at 41.13 a peice.

Murali still takes the cake at the moment.

I'd rather Sangakkara as captain, to be truthful. Anyway, they could always consult each other on the field. :D;)
