When Flintoff celebrated it reminded me of some Saxon warrior who was the last man standing in a battlefield of carnage in England sometime in the distant past. Bit Braveheart-ish.

everything about this ********** is the reason why he is the most hated cricketer on the planet from the last 20 years i rekon.
he is a smug bastard. the most cocky and overrated player of his generation. he sums up his generation. a fat prick of a character who can only play when he wants to play.when the conditions are only right for him.when the tides are down he gives up..then he's not smiling so much.acting like a ****. he will be hitting the piss. feeling sorry for himself. one of the most selfish players around to. but the poms love him cause of that
out of his comfort zone and under pressure the guy is shit. he wants everyone to think he is this smiling nice guy. but everyone knows he is an ass. Its apart of his schtick. the oh so relaxed attitude. one of the lads. its bullshit.
people will argue oh what about gangully, ponting, ranatunga etc. but these guys i can accept. they are who they are. fierce players who never took a step down. They spoke up and believed what they said. flintoff has always seemed like a big fake IMO

I think Matthew Hayden might be able to give freddy a bit of a touch up , just quietly.
Back to the topic though, yes he's over rated. Good Cricketer, just not an all time great( Flintoff that is).

I can tolerate some kid carrying on like a twat, it's a completely different thing when it's done by a veteran playing in his last test no less. He carried on like a complete moron for most of the series.
I can't believe I actually liked him after the 2005 Ashes series. Now I can't wait to see the back of him. Luckily the guy is as dumb as a post and can't string two words together so there's no danger of him popping up in some commentary box down the road. :thumbsu:

I think Flintoff's celebrations are a bit misinterpreted. From all personal accounts I've seen, people say he's one of the least arrogant people you'll meet.
His congratulations/commiserations after matches with the opposition batsmen always come off as quite sincere as well.

I actually like Siddle and Lee. I don't like the chainsaw celebration but I don't hate Lee for it. Egos are part of the game.
Flintoff statistically has not been one of the great all rounders and certainly has not been consistent enough to be rated as one of the greats from that point of view. What he has done is performed in the clinches in some test matches and his bowling around the wicket to left handed batsmen was brilliant.
I am surprised at this thread because Aussies generally enjoy charcters in the opposition side, just like the English fans liked Warne.
Here is what Ponting says about him.
Ponting added: "He's been a great figure in the game. The way he's gone about his cricket, the way he's played the game and how much he's enjoyed the battle - probably particular in Ashes cricket - is something that's been very fun to be a part of for me."
Flintoff's one of those players whose impact and ability isn't really reflected by his statistics. His injuries really screwed him around, often being rushed back into the side when not fully fit. Additionally, he often had to carry the attack and was routinely overbowled, often in circumstances that were not conducive to his style, simply due to a lack of other wickettaking options.
I'll always consider Flintoff to be a far better player than his figures indicate. Daniel Vettori is another allrounder who has suffered a similar fate.

God. His ego is so out of control !
"I have never achieved greatness and I don't profess to," he said. "I was asked 'have you been a great cricketer?' by someone and the obvious answer is no."
"That's the Bothams, the Sobers, the Imran Khans, the Tendulkars, the Ricky Pontings, who achieved greatness over a long period of time, playing Test after Test after Test."
"I have performed at times and I am proud to have done that."
