Umpire and Referee Appointments Confirmed for ICC Cricket World Cup Final

The ICC today confirmed the umpiring and match refereeing appointments for the

Final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003. Officials for the match at The Wanderers on Sunday, 23 March will be:

Australia v India

Standing umpires: David Shepherd, England and Steve Bucknor, West Indies
Third umpire: Rudi Koertzen, South Africa
Fourth umpire: Billy Bowden, New Zealand
Match referee: Ranjan Madugalle

This is the third successive World Cup final appointment for umpires Shepherd and Bucknor. ICC General Manager-Cricket, David Richardson said the pair had fully justified their selection, based on the extremely high standards they had shown throughout the World Cup: "David and Steve have both had outstanding tournaments, confirming their standing as two of the best and most experienced umpires in the game. Together with Rudi Koertzen, Billy Bowden and Ranjan Madugalle as Referee, they will form an excellent team for the final. A special mention should be made of Billy Bowden, who came to the World Cup as a member of the International panel and has ended it as one of the best performers of the entire tournament."

Sounds good to me.

Now if Tiffin gets the sack from International cricket, the umpire committe has done a great job.

Gilly charges down the crease, smacks a ball right into Bucknor's head and is knocked out. Out comes the 4th umpire as the replacement?

Very happy with those decisions.

Hope the men in white have a good game and make the right calls.

4th umpire - he brings out the box of balls to the central umpires right? I'm guessing Billy will try and do that uniquely too, maybe he'll hop out onto the ground?

4th ump also replaces an on-field umpire if an injury occurs.
3rd Ump remains 3rd Ump

Bowden's recognition might serve him well if the ICC have the balls to give Tiffen the flick he so richly deserves.

Venkat was sent home after the Super 6 Stage.
He was a poor performer in the WC and should retire.
The only Super 6 game he did was Zimbabwe vs Kenya which shows he was not in good form.
