Apologies for starting a new thread on your board, and can the mods delete this if it repeated elsewhere (I looked but could not find).
With Jolly signing up, who are the lads most likely to fill your remaining six spots?
Matera is one you would be chasing pretty hard. Is there any whispers of Scott Lycett from the Port Magpies being considered (IMHO will be a gun).
Any other whispers you guys have heard?
Cheers

I think Lycett is not in the age bracket for these picks , and i know Scotty Clayton has been in touch with Matera , so he would be one . Of the top of my head we would try to snag Luke Mitchell , Tom Nicols , Alex Keath , Lucas Cook and Dylan Conway , i'm sure there are others but that bunch will be looked at.

Matera will not sign with GC as a 17 year old, family sources told me he would rather stay in Perth another year with his family and have a chance of going elsewhere in the 2010 draft (since he will be drafted without doubt anyway). They would have to change his mind on this somehow.

Tom Nicholls in that group is a ruckmen, he's 202cm with a decent leap. AIS player as well

From what I have heard the following players are eligible:
1. Alex Keath:
Athletic CHF/FF, who may have gone first round this draft, has good skills and excellent hands below the Knees for a bloke of his size. He can also take contested marks. The only issue I have with him is that he hasn't really kicked a bag in the TAC cup (could be as he plays school footy) although he did play well for Country, when given an opportunity. The major issue is whether he plays cricket or footy, represented Aus 19's.
2. Brandon Matera:
Goal sneak who moves and kicks a lot like Alan Didak. Speedy player with an excellent left boot and goal sense, he just knows where they are. The only knocks on him at the moment are his endurance, is it enough to play in the middle and his size, whether he will get pushed around in contests. Named in Australian U18 team of the year after kicking 15 goals at the champs.
3. Blayne Wilson:
3rd tall type player who is an excellent rebounding defender. Has superb kicking skills and in this day and age where defence rebound is so important he could be an really good prospect.

Luke Mitchell looks to be high on Gold Coast's hit list.
Four goals yesterday for Calder Cannon's win over North Ballarat rebels in TAC.
196cm Key position forward. Captain of Melbourne Grammar First XV111 and Best and Fairest. VC of APS representative team. Hard working forward - great mark and very long kick. Great leader on and off the field. Ticks all the boxes on Clayton's wish list.
Alex Keath (196cm) also at Melbourne Grammar. Runner-up to Mitchell in this year's Best and fairest and listed as Murray Bushrangers second best player this weekend against Sandringham Dragons.

Matera + West Coast = PLEASE GOD MAKE IT HAPPEN!!! :D
Matera wants to continue the legacy of his kin and play with us! We are going to get Phil's son a few years after that as well if he continues to impress and if the twits at AFL centrall dont change the rules on F/S again.

I think this is disgraceful behaviour. The gold coast at the moment reminds me of the sad old days ,when teams like carlton or Sydney could just pull out their book and offer the best players what they want to pull on their shiittty jumpers...
The money spent on developing these players through the junior ranks, paid for by the WA football community , the WAFC ,the Freo dochkers and the West Coast Eagles is all going to prop up a club that no-one wants and or needs.
Dimwitio and his stooges at AFL house need to see past their own egos and start looking after the clubs that have survived this long and not start up new ones in far off lands were no-one even gives a fcu k.

Dean Wollner from Sandringham Dragons would be a great pick up. He is 17, born in march 1992 so he is within the age bracket. He is a very fast midfielder with great kicking skills and is a very gutsy player. The only thing restricting him is a knee injury which he is recovering well from. If he makes it he will be a star.
Also he was the second fastest player on the VicMetro U16 squad

Yeah. More disturbing was the news that the GC wanted Swallow currently 16 years of age wanted him to play for there VFL side, rather than spend another 12 months playing for East Perth and West Australia.

The fact that they are doing this indicates that they will be unwilling to trade their first couple of picks.

Born 5th January club Punchbowl, Very good Athlete, quick over 20m good endurance. Silky skills with a Rich like kick. Natural reader of the game etc.
But seriously Jamie Cripps is another good prospect. Speedy small defender who will give good run from the back-line. Has pretty good skills, especially kicking, although they are not that penetrating. Issues over is size, and whether he will get the endurance to play in the midfield. Reads the game all-right but not brilliantly, and is not a natural inside player, but will has lots of development left.

If the GC are smart after talking to Matera and Swallow if both say they want to stay in Perth for 2010 to finish school and play WAFL they should say no worries. Even if both say they want to play in Perth GC17 should say no worries, we will have a descrete chat with your prefered club in WA and agree to trade you to your club of choice.
GC17 picks up 2 17 yr olds for nothing and can pick up another 2 first round picks or players by trading these young guys to the WA club of their choice.

How on earth can that be disturbing ?? Giving the kid the option to come to the club he will play for in 12 months time , its not as though Scotty Clayton is there dragging him out of his home and chucking him on the first plane to the Gold Coast , he gave him the option , by the sounds of it Jack Darling cant wait to get here , so its individual preference .

From today's AFL Website
Draft camp snippets: day 1 … And sizing up the likes of
Jack Hutchins (Sandringham Dragons), Luke Mitchell (Calder Cannons), Viv Michie (Oakleigh Chargers), Taylor Hine (Calder Cannons), Blayne Wilson (Peel Thunder), Tom Nicholls (Sandringham Dragons) and Piers Flanagan (Geelong Falcons), who are all at the camp and in contention to be claimed by Gold Coast. The seven 17-year-olds were all born in 1992 and can only be claimed by the 17th AFL club – at this point.
Which boys do people think will fill the last four (4) 17yo contract spots on 2010 list?

Five Victorians a chance to make Coast's golden dozen
Emma Quayle, Canberra | October 5, 2009
THE Gold Coast has settled on all but two of the 12 17-year-olds it is entitled to this year, after putting seven young prospects through last week's draft-camp testing in Canberra.
The new club will offer contracts to Victorian pair Jack Hutchins and Piers Flanagan, part of the group who took part in the Survivor-style week, after already signing Tasmanians Maverick Weller and Luke Russell, Victorians Josh Toy, Trent McKenzie and Matt Shaw, and South Australian onballer Hayden Jolly.
The Gold Coast will also list talented West Australian Brandon Matera, the son of Wally, and highly promising key-position prospect Alex Keath, although Keath is not expected to make a decision on his future until next year.
The 17-year-old is also in the Australian under-19 cricket squad and being heavily courted by that sport, too. Like Keath, Toy will remain in Melbourne next year to finish school.
However, the Gold Coast has missed out on forward Troy Taylor, who it could have signed as a Northern Territory player. Taylor has been heavily courted by several clubs since his exciting national championships, and has decided to take his chances in the draft.
Tall prospects Luke Mitchell and Tom Nicholls and the smaller Taylor Hine, Viv Michie and Blayne Wilson were the other players to participate at draft camp, and Gold Coast recruiting manager Scott Clayton said the club would decide on its final choices after processing all the information.
''We want to get all the numbers in and flick them all around, but clearly we're still interested in the ones that miss out, and we'll look at them again in the draft next year,'' Clayton said.
''It should give them a lot of confidence, being up here, and they should know that they're close. They're young, and this is a good experience for them.''
Hutchins, who also has Olympic potential in the pool, said competing against the other members of his group, while also trying to support them through the week, had been a unique experience.
''We're sort of fighting for it, but I don't think any of us have taken it that way,'' said the teenager who raced alongside Eamonn Sullivan at the World Championship swimming trials early this year, a month before touring South Africa with the AIS-AFL Academy.
''We've just tried to enjoy it as much as we can, and we're all good friends. We're getting along really well and if any of these guys end up going up there, I know I'm going to be happy for them.
''The way I look at it, it's a win-win situation either way, because even if we don't get asked to go up, we've been to see a draft camp. That can only help us out next year, if we're lucky enough to come up again.''
Mitchell, who starred for the Calder Cannons late this season, kicking three goals in the TAC Cup grand final, said none of the players had resorted to any underhanded tactics in an effort to psyche out the others.
''Not really, but maybe I should start stealing their blankets,'' he said laughing.

On the players they have chosen already you would think that Clayton would consider a tall forward (with his rep though more likely an outside mid).
Alex Keath is the other player they would like but cricket are wanting his services as well, and he has yet to choose.
Tiger 17/8 do you have a source, not doubting you but IMO Blayne Wilson would have been strongly considered.
