Afganistan have continued their giant killing form by defeating the Netherlands in Amstelveen in their ICC Intercontinental Cup game overnight.

It is their first ever first class win in international cricket.

Netherlands 181(De Grooth 54,Hassan 4/45,Nabi 4/52) and 132(Borren 63,Ashraf 4/24,Zadran 4/28) lost to Afghanistan 107(Mangal 41,Borren 3/21,Seelaar 3/44) and 9/209(Ali 56,Schiferli 5/57) by 1 wicket.

it's a good win by them. i was following the game and they did play well in that 2nd innings to chase down 210.

Cricket was the only sport the Taliban actually supported, they even approached Pakistan and the PCB to see if they could get them to play Test Cricket at one stage.

It's a good win by the Afghans, let's hope it continues

I was following their progress through the qualifying stages of the world cup, disappointed they didn't get there in the end, but you got to admire a team playing against the odds. No proper cricket grounds in their country, a war torn zone, hope there is a good future for Afghanistan Cricket.

Apparently a few of the Afghani bowlers were sending down hand grenades...

They just missed out on qualifying for the 2011 world cup didn't they?

It's so good to see them winning some matches IMO.

Shame the cricket fans back in Afghanistan couldn't watch it, apparently there was a telly ban.

I'll get my coat.

They might have had the radio going, with a clothes hanger as reception

Really? That's interesting, considering that their Pakistani offshoot and their affiliates hate cricket - that's probably part of the reason why they decided to target the SL cricket team in the first place.

I read on a website (don't remember where) that in Balochistan that, if there was cricket being played, then Pakistani Taliban/affiliates weren't in the vicinity. Otherwise, they were.

Yeah, they're clear leaders atm - good to see. Anyone know much about how the ICC (I assume) finances these kinds of tournaments? It's great that they do - only improvement would be full H&A fixtures, but I guess it takes about 18 months already. Rolling championship like Tests maybe?

Apparently the pitch was a minefield.

That would explain all the short legs.

Hopefully they don't get too good. Last thing cricket needs is another full voting ICC member that is just a part of the 'vote how India votes' bloc.
