Forgive me if i have posted this in the wrong section but i recall that last season, after some discussion, the mods decided that we would have individual threads for 4 or 5 players that Essendon would be likely to pursue in the NAB draft. I thought i would kick things off by posting a thread on Tapscott.
From the limited footage i have seen of the potential draftees this is the guy that stands out for me. Nice size about him, probably ready made size for AFL footy but you can see that he will develop into a fair unit. Lovely long penetrating kick and a brilliant kick for goal. Some of his long goals from outside 50m in the champs were quite impressive. By the looks of him he also looks like he has a bit of mongrel about him and also loves to attack the ball and man hard.
Seems like the player the Dons should be after imo but would love to hear from those that know a lot about all the kids.
Rohan is the other one that stood out to me but i have a feeling that he will go early and im not really sure if he can become an out and out mid?
Thoughts?
He's the one (from my limited viewing of the champs) that I really want Essendon to pick up - lovely, penetrating kick and goes ok (from what I've seen) in the ball winning stakes.

Base on your recommendation I u tubed Tapscott - not bad at all.
I am not sure about the other guys in contention, but this guy is good.
Will keep my eye open for him from now on. Good spot SJ05

I admit i'm only going off youtube here as it's hard to watch the u-18's from brisbane but gee Martin looks impressive too with Stevens not far behind. Tapscott looked quite impressive too though I must admit

Saw his video last week and would be ecstatic if we picked him up.

I would take Martin over Tapscott (just) but he will be gone well before our pick imo.

Will be drafted by Port.

Tapscott is my second preference out of the 4 player I really want. My List goes Martin, Tapscott, Cunnington and Stevens. But I feel that tapscott will be the most realistic for us considering where we enter the draft. Could fit in our team staright away as a half forward type and then make the transition to the midfield. Reminds me of a Higgins or Dangerfield type player.:thumbsu:

Tapscott - one of the best Youtube packages I've seen since Hurley's.
I had a look at Martin's, going simply by youtube, naaaaah.

I though Matins was a bit more imressive especially with his kicking and the amount of ball he gets but thats my opinion how come your more impresswed with Tapscott?

Nice pace, good overhead, good size and penetrative kick. To be honest, I'm not personally concerned at their age as to how often they get the ball, it's what they do with the ball. I wasn't overly impressed with what Martin did with the ball but he did seem to have good vision. I also think Tapscott will come on a lot quicker due to his body size, I know that's not the most important thing but there's no guarantees that Martin has the body shape to add bulk. He reminds me of a young Matthew Lappin.
I think if we're looking for a Ricciuto/Chapman type then Tapscott is the man.
As I said, that's based purely on the youtube footage.
Can I also say I wasn't impressed with Cunnington's youtube either.
It's all opinionative.
Would much rather Dustin Martin!! the one weakness on Luke is that he doesn't get enough pill. but having said that he doesnt need that much pill to influence the game because of his high skill level. but still would much rather dustin martin

Exactly the player that I thuoght of when I saw him. I see Martin as a true mid while Tapscottt half forward potential it really depends on our needs because we could esily go with Stevens who is silky smooth or Cunnington but those 2 didnt impress me as much as the latter 2 in the utube footage.

I think we need a player who can break the lines. Given time Tapscott could be moved into the middle ala Chapman and be a genuine goal-kicking midfielder.
That's what I think we need. Lonergan has not come on as well as I would've liked but I did think people were overrating him last season.

Agreed i really like the look of tapscott has a great kick on him and can take a mark, plus looks hard at it really looks like the type of player we need. Although i don't agree on your comments about lonergun

The girls over on the Carlton board are crying already that we will pick this guy infront of them.
A thread entitled " Essendon to screw us 2 years running " regarding the recruitment of Tapscott to Essendon has sprung up from the roting filthy mess that is Carlton- as though it is a foregone conclusion.

This thread made my day..
Those women over there whinge about Essendon like a couple of old bags.

Saw his league debut for North Adelaide. Admittedly it's the only time I've seen him play but he seriously impressed me that day. Played across half forward, took a couple of really solid overhead grabs and kicked, from memory, 2 goals from outside 50. Possibly more impressive again was his courage and hardness at the ball, and a couple of massive (but legal) shepherds/bumps. I'm no drafting expert so i couldn't say "top x", but based on that I'd say he'll become a very good AFL player.

From what little I've seen, if we have the opportunity to pick him up but overlook him, I'll spew up!
tapscott looks ok - i wouldn't be upset if we got him. around pick 10 others likely to be available include martin, cunnington, panos and dylan mcneil. there hasn't been much talk about mcneil, possibly because he played in div 2 for nsw, but i'd recommend you all have a look at him. he's a brent harvey/nathan foley type good for clearances and is a goal kicker. he made all australian and is quite possibly the most under-rated in pre-draft discussion for mine.

finally someone mentioning mcniells name. i reckon he is the one we want an absolute goer. efc boy wat are mcniells stats. he really has no height does he?

95% of people on this board can't read that :p
What's the bet Essendon will screw us just like they did with Michael Hurley.I wanted him before Daniel Rich but we got Chris Yarran who will be good but will go back home i reckon. What's the bet Luke Tapscott will go to Essendon if Port Adelaide don't get him and he still around. We probably get a lovely butterfly who goes to havard university

This kid can kick. I'll tell you that. Everytime I've seen him kick a goal, it's always been from outside/on the 50?
Long kick, and accurate! - Just what we need.
I can see him becoming the Buddy type in a couple years. He also takes a good strong mark and knows how to make a presence when he isn't kicking 3+ goals.
Port Adelaide are creaming themselves for him, and I just hope they don't take him so that we can grab this potential star!

If Martin and Cunnington are gone by our pick, Tapscott would be my preferred option.
They are the three I am keen on.

Martin 187cm, 86kg. He is already has a fair amount of bulk and will only get bigger. Great size for a midfielder. Not sure about the comparison with skinny Lappin.
As a comparison David Myers is 190cm, 85kg.

I would love to have Tapscott at Essendon. I reckon he could be that hard game breaking midfielder that we need.
Koby Stevens did not impress me at all, sure he got a few possessions, but he didn't do anything with them.
Hopefully (But I doubt it) we can do a dual trade with Port Adelaide, Lovett and Nash for pick 8 (or 9 depending on the Hawks/Burgoyne trade). Then if we may be able to get Tapscott and one of either Cunnington, Butcher, or Lucas.

I know this is a pretty crazy comparison, but the way he moves and the position he plays in reminds me of Hirdy! Chapman is also a really good comparison.

I can see a bit of chappy in him. However hes no Hird. Im afraid we will have to wait another about 16 or so years to see them

That one still baffles me. Was hard and tough.
But has gone on to be a 3 time premiership captain since in the SANFL. So suits Central fans.
