RD, I took the kids down yesterday and had an absolute ball.

Truly a great day. And fantastic to see all of those characters too.

Me thinks it'd be good place to pick up 'unwanted goods'!

I'm going to wear a carnation this week so you blokes know who I am.

I'm really looking forward to the day.

Should have a real VFA feel about it :)

It was nice to see some flags going behind the goals, let's hope we can get some more (maybe even streamers like Geelong did?) at TEAC Oval on Sunday.

My devil spawn are 5 and 16 months. There wasn't a jumping castle or anything but there was plenty enough to keep 'em busy. It was like going to the old suburban grounds, but less people.

Nice little grass hills behind the goals, quaint grandstands, no restricted areas, enough junk food doled out by old-time tuck shop grannies and, much to my son's delight, you can go out on the ground between quarters.

It's got real character, something the AFL lacks these days. The footy was good too.

Plus, it's educational: my son learned a heap of new words more commonly heard on merchant ships.

Matt Suckling vs Matt Suckling - always a good match up.

Interesting to see Fanning back in as first ruck. Spent some time during the season in the 2's....seems to be back in favor with the coach.

think Hawthorn/BHH is banking on a grand final birth. we can play more Hawthorn listed players at the moment, hwoever, its strictly 12/10 in the grand final.

Collingwood look set to make it, but at the moment using every available player. splitting them up in the final would cause chaos, whilst BHH/Hawthorn will have an outfit theyve been using for about 2 months

BRUEST!! BH - 26 Port 14

Box Hill playing well on top - except for Brewer (Port) on the far wing, and Walsh in the ruck, we're playing all over the top of them.

Suckling has been fantastic, best on ground coming out from half back.

on ABC (#195) on pay.

Pimwell kicks a helicopter to tie it up. 26-26.

Batsanis puts Port in front 26-32.

We've been playing all over them, but 3-4 times in a row we've been caught out by their players running forwards of the ball.

Since Yze went back and Lisle went forwards we've struggled.

M&M turnover in defensive 50m. 7th free in a row to Port. Without replays it's hard to see what any of them are for - but they've all been paid by Gleeson (#8).

It was there, Muston slipped and turned away from ball whilst wrestling with his man.. Port 38-26.

Muston just made a HUGE leap to spoil (got 1m above M&M who was also jumping).

Qtr time -
Port 6.3.39
BHH 4.2.26

At quarter time
Port 6.3 39
Box Hill 4.2 26
Port kicked 4 unanswered goals towards the end of the quarter to go from being 2 goals down to 2 goals up, worrying signs for Box Hill.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 13:47
Intersetingly, I50s are 16-8 Port's way. By my count we had six of the first 8, so a huge turnaround.

Walsh/Pedersen getting spanked in the ruck, as is Gibson on the wing. Otherwise we've had the ascendency, Port killing us on turnovers as they aren't working back defensively - quite a few occassions we've been streaming forward with the ball, only to fumble and the turnover finding 4-5 loose Port players.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 13:53
BB - Skills (turnovers) and not working hard enough in transition.

GA - Very methodical, happy with the effort and defensive.

2nd Qtr - hot HTB for Port, then the exact same didn't give us the free, but Yze snapped anyway.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 13:55
Walsh gets his first tap, but straight to pimwall, who just boots forward blindly.

Walsh his second, Suckling huge boot off balance down the wing.

Port fell over and Walsh fell over him, giving away the free. Batsanis with a long ball to Bonadaio (sp?) who's too quick for M&M, OOF from tight angle.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 13:57
Walsh misses an uncontested mark in d50, then gives a soft in-the-back free on Bonaddio. Same angle, 15m closer, kicks the goal.

45 v 32

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 13:58
Walsh jumps early, Port ruck easy takeaway - but turns over. Hawks run into trouble on near wing, Port run forward, Markovic good spoil, then Milne tries to step oncoming tackler and fails. Pimwell kicks the goal.

51 v 32.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:00
6 of last 7 goals, four from free kicks (another with advantage).

Morton clearly beats his opponent on the wing, works inside to ? - long kick to Williams, drops the mark - finally we get a free. It wasn't any more than the previous half dozen ignored though.

Lisle from 40m, slight angle, straight through.

51 v 38.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:02
Walsh to Muston, great tap - Muston scrubs kick, contest at HF.

Port run away with it, Walsh floating back takes a good mark. Lisle good work on the wing to Yze. Hands to morton who chips over a player, Pedersen strong mark 35m out tight angle. Got high.

Straight through - great kick.

51 v 44.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:04
Fanning clear tap, but Iles intercepts, spears it to Lisle who takes a great mark on the lead.

50m out directly in front, very high kick (too close to man on mark), starts right, finishes right.

51 v 45.

Dragz
13 Sep 2009, 14:05
Walsh - great contested mark. If only he had the rucking ability of Paul Salmon!

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:06
WALSH! Great makr, hawks work forward to contest, turnover, Port run out, turnover. Box Hill massive numbers. Morton again chips in to George who takes very good mark. Hands back, Morton forced onto left, contest on goal line, Muston/Pedersen nearly get it, tackled over goal line. rushed point.

Suckling great mark running with the flight.

Lots of contest on the wing/hff. mercificully calls for a ballup.

3 minutes of fighting for the ball. Great stuff. BHH so much harder at the contest.

Brother Noompsi
13 Sep 2009, 14:08
Morton really needs to fix up his kicking, his floating high drop punts are going to kill someone one day.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:08
McGrath GREAT tackle on Pedersen, but considering what they've let go a little hot. Markovic does well in defence.

gibson to George, Stangs everwhere. Pedersen in space, poor handball but gets it back. Muston held out by two players, but for some reason no free.

Markovic good spoil, contest on wing, ball up. Phew.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:09
Marovic very good on the left, Williams fumbles again.

6 times he's been thereabouts, 3 dropped marks, and 2 fumbles.

How are you viewing the game Simon?

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:11
Long kicks from Port, two good marks, Batsnais crumbs the contest, his kick drops wide.

Suckling goes "short" to Yze 65m out from the kick out. Long down wing. Brust beats tackles, but poor kick.

Muston great pressure to force OOF, Williams from 45.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:12

hawks_time
13 Sep 2009, 14:13
Iles, who has been on fire this quarter, is being helped off the ground with injury.
Confusing game, it's exciting back and forth footy but a lot of it is because of bad foot skills and lots of turnovers.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:21
Curnow to Kiel to George long kicks around the line - George fumbles, and port come back in but Waslh takes the contested mark. Long to Savage who creates time but misses his target. Port long to square, Walsh tocuhed on the line.

Stangs fiddling about at HB, but Cross good long kick to Yze - who sits it on Kiel's head. Good contest, but Savage gives away free for in the back. Markovic good tackle, Goerge turns it over AGAIN. Port in clear, Neil good spoil out of position, Suckling kicks over his shoulder to gain 30m.

Suckling good handball, Milne a poor one, but Hawks a lucky free.

Savage good long kick to Yze, chips to Curnow but too far, oob on near wing/hff.

MARKOVIC!!! Great mark over two opponents.

George turns it over again, M&M great tackle, but then dives into Bonaddio's back. Port on far HFF Markovic and Walsh spoil each other in the goal-square, but Gibson managed to 'fumble' it over the line.

Markovic another defensive intercept, George long to Milne, to ? who spots up the only port player in a 30m radius.

Port waltz forward unpressured but miss the shot from 45 directly in front.

56 v 52 at half-time.

Back now. Yze kicked a goal from a tight angle after a great long kick from Suckling.

Then suckling broke through 50m with a great long kick for goal. Unfortunately it was the "Other" one.

Ressies were "well in front" at half time. Presume they won, but don't know.

#11 from box hill VERY soft. Lisle good hands to Yze in space, who fluffed the kick badly.

68-66

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:55
It's ON!

Not really, but potential for it.

#28 late hit on Curnow (Matt Smith). Muston into protest. Adds to his Rainbow Warrior moniker with the torn jumper.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:57
68-72

Port spread well from the contest, good pass to Dwyer 50m on the boundary. Didn't even look to pass off, top of sqaure, Pitt marks unimpeded. Pedersen didn't get there to spoil. Snaps the goal.

74-72

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 14:59
Pedersen 3rd man to yze, good hb to space, George runs on and kicks from 50m, just misses.

Good kickout, dBello spoils the next one over Batsanis., Bruest great contested work, then spots up Walsh at FF.

74-78

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 15:02
Pedersen rucking from 5 m away, taking a full runup as if he's 3rd man up.

Port clear, but Muston intercepts, runs 15 m and kicks to Lisle, who misjudges the depth - kick went 50+ Lisle ran in, then it went over his head.

Yze's always popular with the opposition players

hawks_time
13 Sep 2009, 15:03
Great goal by Savage.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 15:03
Bruest clever tap on, Morton quick hands, and Savage off a step from 52 "and went BANG!"

74-85

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 15:06
Pedersen dominating the ruck hitouts now, but port are running around the outside and going forward. Fanning strong mark back on after a rest. Will go back into ruck now, as Bonaddio getting spanked.

Bello to Walsh - 65m kick!, contested mark. Nice.

Markovic beats 2, gives it to Bello, on to Milne, then Lisle, Yze off the right foot OOB next to behind post.

Port working hard from defence, but turning it over accross hff.

Milne good spot, to ?, to Williams from 55, misses right.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 15:07
Brewer looks good, but bello tackle should have been a hawks free, not paid and Bonaddio stands still long enough for everyone to fall over, and he shins a goal.

80-85

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 15:09
Port running hard from behind, finding players in space. Shot from 55. Very close to man on mark, Walsh spoils OOB.

Bello HtB, directly in front.

Neville from 30m, directly in front

87-86

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 15:13
Lisle got a woeful bounce, but recovered with a great tackle for HtB. Somehow not paid, we go forwards anyway, but cannot find a player, suckling misses from right hand boundary.

Another missed free to Box, M&M great diving mark at full stretch. Kicks to 2 Port players, who then kick it out of bounds in front of an unmarked PM player.

Markovic to Suckling. 55 to Goerge in the middle, wide to Cross, who kicks to a 4-on-1. Savage goes to crumb, realises he's the only one there.

Gang tackle at 50m.

Interesting free against Muston - ran through ruck contest.

Terrible play from Box, Port easiest of goals from goal square.

93-87.

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 15:14
Pedersen soccers from centrebounce, Gibson picks up and kicks from 50m for a goal.

13 Sep 2009, 15:18
Dwyer's getting 100s of touches this quarter.

Suckling HtB from Williams - wasn't paid despite him running 10m before being caught.

We got it anyway, and were running clear, but Batsanis easily beats Pedersen as he misjudged the kick.

Then gave away 50m for abuse.

LONG quarter. 35:30!

Simon_Nesbit
13 Sep 2009, 15:20
Last 5 minutes of 1st (7-0 PM), and last 5 minutes of 3rd (?) both very biased. Then again, #8 was in charge in 1st (and has paid probably 75% of all frees), and #4 in charge in 3rd (and has only paid 2-3 frees all day).

So it's as much us not playing to the umpiring interpretations than anything else. #8 is red hot on Htb and ItB, #4 not paying anything.

for those not able to see it...

5 mins (about) to go. Muston walks "over" where the umpire is to bounce. instead of the umpire yelling "get back" like they always do, pays free to port.
Result - port goal (indirect)

Tackle on wing. player drops ball on ground and scoops ball up to oncoming player. Result - no free, play on.

Port player runs 20+ metres without a bounce. Result - not called, play on.

Port player after running 20+m without a bounce is tackle. No Call.

Same port player is tackled a second time. Result - Ball up.

Pathetic.

3/4time frees. Port 21-BHH 10

Port by 7 points. Getting the 'rub of the orange'.

#8 is in their forward line.

Box hill chipping around, Muston running forward hard, then Yze, Walsh taken high. Soft.

#24 is the other umpire, haven't seen him until now.

Yze and Muston running from BP to HF...Walsh helicopters a goal from 40m.

100-99

Great contested work. #4 is in control in the middle, so there won't be any frees. A pity, as plenty of holding off the b all tackling, etc. Could have been 8 frees to us so far, not one paid.

#4 still won't pay a free, that should have been against us.

2 point lead to Port. 8 minutes gone.

Throat hit from Fanning on Williams was the 50m.

10 minutes gone.

Port bomb it forward, scramble and Bonaddio gives it off to Dwyer who kicks the goal.
