View Full Version : Anyone remember when the Bears won the Reserves GF?
Was anyone there to see the game? Watch it on TV? Can any of you Bears fans give us Victorians a run down? What was it like to win your first GF (albeit a Reserves grade one)?
I remember that R.Eade was the reserves captain at the time, and I believe the match itself was against Hawthorn.
I'd be pretty interested to hear about it - after all, we've told you all about our (Roys) '89 Reserves GF win!
Wasn't it the 1991 reserves Grand Final at Waverley Park ?

yep ... and forget about any hype that followed .... there was none! Remember, we are a rugby league state up here, and the Broncos were going well in the ARL at that stage.

And for anyone that would like to see the photo of the team, and of course the trophy itself (seeing as it is the only taste of a premiership of anysort for the Bears/Bris Lions - the team I followed) it is displayed in a cabinet in the reception area of the Lions offices at the Gabba.
Worth a gander for the curious.

I was going to go down to Melbourne for the match until I found out it was at Waverley and not the MCG. Waverley is just too far to travel.

I watched it on the telly. It was the first time I'd ever seen Roger Merrett sans moustache! (He was in the coaches box in case you're wondering what Roger was doing with the ressies!)

I remember watching the game, and was stoked to see the old Bears win it. But If it was before the 1991 Grand Final I probably would of forgotten about it (since the Eagles didn't win the GF)
