View Full Version : Probably a stupid idea

This is probably a dumb idea, but I think it might make for an interesting few minutes.
If a bowler had to come off the ground injured, what if the 12th man had to come in to finish bowling the over? Imagine the drama if the Aussies were playing a one-day game against England, and the English were 9/243 off 49.3 overs chasing 250. Glenn McGrath suffers a crippling cramp and a young kid like Hauritz had to come in to bowl three balls.

Worth considering I guess, but in a practical sense it would be too easy to abuse....similar to the 4 on the bench idea in AFL. That is not used in the spirit it was intended...

Yeah... if Ian Harvey is getting carted with 0-40 after 6 overs, what's to say he won't do a hammy and have 12th man Glenn McGrath (being rested) finish the over.

What if the 12th man is a batter...

If the rule can be manipulated by having a bowler as 12th man, you will never EVER see a batsman named as 12th...

A fair point, but if you can do the same with any one of the players actually on the field.

Most likely you'd see a decent bowler and excellent fielder.

Well they could make some banana fritters then !!
But if he was a BATSMAN, well that would change things dramatically.
