Here's some details of what was said on Fox last night.

Carey: Telstra surface worst
01 April 2003 Herald Sun

WAYNE Carey last night added his name to the growing list of AFL players who have criticised the playing surface at Telstra Dome.

"It's the worst surface I've ever seen, there's no doubt," Carey said on Fox Footy's On The Couch.

Asked to elaborate after the show, Carey added: "It's bloody awful. One end is not good. It's all uneven.

"One end is pretty good, the other is not. All the (Adelaide) guys commented about it when we were over for the Wizard Cup."

Several players, including Essendon captain James Hird, have also complained about the hardness of the Telstra Dome surface.

In a wide-ranging interview, Carey also spoke of the alleged hotel spa incident earlier this year, and his reaction to an aside from Collingwood president Eddie McGuire, which inexplicably went to air on Fox Footy.

"When I do something wrong, I'll put my hand up and cop it on the chin, as I did last year," he said of the alleged spa incident. "But when something gets blown completely out of proportion and you had nothing to do with what was reported, that's what hurts."

He said McGuire's comments had not upset him.

"I heard about it a couple of days later," he said.

"I think it was a bit of tongue in cheek; it wasn't meant to go to air, obviously, and didn't bother me too much."

Carey also spoke of some of the difference between his long-time coach Denis Pagan at the Kangaroos and new mentor Gary Ayres at the Crows.

"Denis used to give an analysis on every player after the game and give a written report so every player could read what every player had done," he said. "Gary doesn't do that; Gary comes up to after the game, privately, and has a bit of a chat. There's no real fanfare about it."

Carey said he hoped to play all 22 games this season and hopefully some finals.

He said it was too soon to judge how 12 months out of the game would affect him.

Carey also mentioned that the beat up spa incident may still result in legal action making one Mike Sheahan look VERY uncomfortable. I wonder why the Sun didn't report that...

Did he mention suing that jumped up little cow of a TV-reporter who pestered him in that cafe following the spa beatup and despite Wayne repeatedly and politely telling her to go away/leave him alone sarcastically asked the king:

"Are you innocent or does trouble just follow Wayne Carey wherever he goes..."

Great interview from Wayne more or less said he has no time for journos in general & more than once made the panel shift around on their bums as if they were sitting on a ant hill,

Did not mention anyone in particular who might receive a knock on the door but my money would be on the Herald Sun & a couple of journos who might have to open their wallets sometime in the future,

The Herald Sun were very careful how they worded things in their articles, so may well have nothing to answer.

dyertribe, I think that was a nine reporter from A Current Affair. Nine went for the jugular. Very accusational, as if he'd already been tried and found guilty in a court of law. I'd say they will be paying for that, but probably not as much as the ratings were worth to them.

I can understand him wanting to clear his name, but in some respects I wish he'd just put it behind him.

I thought he was very good.

Two things I noticed.

1) He wasn't wearing AFC official clothing which is unusual

2) He called the AFC - "they" a lot.

Doesn't really bother me as I understand how hard it most be to chagne a lifetimes habbit.

Can't criticise his effort on the ground which is the most important thing

He really stuck it to Mike and Gerrard with some of his answers.

Looks like he is getting some of his confidence back.

He did call AFC "they" and Kangaroos "us" on occasion. As you say force of habit.

I noticed the clothing as well. I wondered if he had a conflict of interest there with his Foxtel contract?

Anyhow, presented himself well and had them cringing. Good stuff.

I think he knowingly called the AFC "they", because of the position he was in.

I think he handled himself well and it was a good interview.

Yeah, Carey obviously still considers himself a North man. But even Rehn after two years at Hawthorn seemed to still consider himself a Crows man when he announced his retirement. Ho hum, I'm not bothered so long as he performs for us. ;)

I think AFC quoted the Herald Sun at one point claiming in an article that Carey was under Police investigation over a reported stolen camera.

That was untrue.

The also carried a headline that Carey was at a "Wild Spa Party".

That was untrue.

Herald Sun have at least that to answer for.

I'd agree that the rest of it was of the "allegded incident" sort of "don't shoot the messenger" reporting.

You must live in SA.

When that *story* broke, it was all over the Herald-Sun - for days.

But there was NO retraction, reporting or apolgy when those 2 females aplologised to Carey and his wife through the New Idea.
They wanted money and they got some money.

No, I live in NSW, aka the footy dark ages!

The story was all over the Sun for days, but I thought they were very careful not to express opinion, using quotes from others and a number of disclaimers.

I would say that if there was some action taken against them their legal council will deflect bullets all over the place and none will stick in the Sun.
