Another lesson learned tonight at the MCG.

Great HF flankers are all well and good, but when the pressure is on, they need a big target to kick it to.

Hopefully for your sake he gets it right.

with jack darling already on the way i dont think they will have to worry about lacking a dominant power forward any time soon

i have never seen another kid who has that kind of presence on the field

Riewoldt is a freak and was the difference last night, but the Bulldogs only lost by 7 points and will finish in front of a number of sides with great Power forwards. Why?.because of skill and legspeed this group is not far off a premiership and a lot closer than those sides with the power forwards.Easier to fix one problem than many.

Well arguably West Coast did it without a power full forward, but WCE midfield > Griffen, Cooney, Cross and Boyd...just.

coaches have final say on who is recruited though. coaches and match committee formulate a plan on what sort of players they need. A recruiter can only put forward the best in what a club needs.

Says who?

Many, if not most clubs afford their recruitment departments a considerable degree of sovereignty. Temptation is too strong for some coaches to go for the quick fix rather than act in the long term interests of the club.

Lions are on the downhill my friend.

Brown, Black and Bradshaw will be retiring very soon, then what?

Silly post though really, this thread isn't about Brisbane. Its about the recent record of your recruiter. With Brisbane Scotty was lucky to get the zone selections of Akermanis and Voss to kick the ball to father/son selection Jonathan Brown.

The inability of the Bulldogs to piece together the formula to go all the way is a talking point, whether you want to deflect it or not with talk about another club.

As has been mentioned though, Darling is the closest thing to a dead cert of a key forward going around, and has fallen into GC17's lap.

As for being scared? Not yet. You aren't on the radar till you enter the comp, then we can worry about trying to drum up a faux rivalry.

They will probably have the first 4 picks of the draft, you would have to be a moron to stuff that up.

Can anyone who has seen Darling play at length, compare him to any modern day player?

Ha - found some already!! I think one of the commentators mentioned he has a similar presence to Jonathan Brown at the same age.

If they can keep the group together, without a doubt.

Cannot fault his drafting of smalls; his problem is drafting KPP's. Lake was a steal as a late, mature-age pick who was overlooked due to health issues. Minson was a good pick up. Hargy and Morris were both superb pick ups but do they count as KPP's?

Other than that, he's given us Bowden, Wiggins, Wight, Jesse White, Tim Walsh, Wade Skipper, and O'Shea who have amounted to nothing, and Roughead, Williams, Tiller, Bouman, Grant, and Everitt whom the jury is still out on. Grant, Williams, and Walsh all top six picks.

He has an obsession with skinny, athletic, underdeveloped talls with plenty of 'upside' but little footy talent. Who knows, maybe Grant, Everitt, and Williams will play 500 games between them and prove me wrong?

Likes his 'smokies' too - but would any other recruiter have taken Tom Williams at pick 6?
He seems to have the idea that you can get an athlete first and develop into footballers later
Farren Ray was a top ten draft pick who patently couldn't kick a goal to save his life.

Haha, all the Brisbane supporters getting scared already.

Apparently, the Gold Coast can't fail when Jack Darling and Steven May are pretty much already headed to the Gold Coast. That's 2 quality forwards already.
