Boucher loses No.2 role
From correspondents in Johannesburg
April 1, 2003

MARK BOUCHER has been axed as vice-captain, South Africa's cricket board deciding against re-appointing anyone to the post.

The decision follows the sacking of Shaun Pollock as captain after South Africa failed to reach the second round of the World Cup.

Graeme Smith, 22, was appointed captain earlier this month.

A UCB media release said the selection panel had decided against naming a vice-captain for South Africa's upcoming tour to Bangladesh, "but has elected rather to work though a process to identify the right candidate during the tour".

The vice-captain will be decided on a match-by-match basis, the UCB said.

There's probably no one suitable to take on the gig, much like their captaincy.

I can't believe someone like Jacques Kallis wouldn't be considered for that role.

Along with Panikstan the South African's have completely over reacted to a poor world cup.

Pakistan dropped 6 or 7 players from their team, which was redicolous while SA have had a complete overhaul of their leadership group.

If they just took in their stride and got in with the job without fuss they'd all be much better for it, especially Pollock and Boucher.
