View Full Version : Scott Bassett
Sorry to intrude. Just enquiring about your former player.
Can some of give us bulldog supporters an incite on Scott Basset?
Strengthes, weaknesses, injuries, memorable games, etc?
Very happy to get him, played well on Sunday and exactly the type of player we needed. Know there are abundance of defenders at Port, but where some of us sad to see him go?
I suppose you got Montgomery from us.
Thanks guys
Chops
PS Eagleton played best game for a long time!
There is a thread on the Crows board that hopefully you wont have to get used to. Like we did, just like the Crows supporters.
However history suggests that there will be similar threads on your board from time to time during the year.
Apart from that, they are both good players, and I am sure most of us on this board wish him all the best.
Absolutely killed Corey McKernan in a game against the Roos at Manuka in 1999. Took 13 marks, I think. He's very straight at the ball and has a very quick football mind. I couldn't see the logic in cutting him, myself, because he proved a very adequate replacement for the injured Paxman in the 2001 finals. Played well up forward for his SANFL club with some big bags of goals. Unproven as a forward at AFL.
Actually, that Bassett game was against the Roos at the SCG in 2000. He gave him a bath, and as one of the 6963 people there I remember giving him a good rev up all match. I, of course, claim full credit for his game ;)
He's a decent mark, a good intuitive negator and has a decent attention span. He's a solid backman that could/should improve with more experience. If the midfield is making supply to opposition forwards a little rushed, Bassett will do a good shut down.
I'd have kept Bassett on for another year at Port, but thems the breaks. Solid enough player just didn't get the chances at Port, had some bad luck with injuries, hope he plays well for the WB as long as its not against us!
Thanks guys
good luck this week
Was probably our player of the finals in 2001. A real goer, and with underrated versatility.

You can only take half the credit as I was there too. Altho my wife was there as well, so you've just been cut down to a third.
I guess that counts for most of the actual football supporters that turned up for the day..
I reckon only football supporters would've been there - the fly by nighters would've all be walking across the Harbour Bridge for Reconciliation Day.

Thanks for that. I was a bit confused.
Now I understand your point.
Wouldn't swap Nathan for anyone though, despite it all. Gives 100% every game.

Never said otherwise.
Jason Gillespie is a great bowler, but could have been even greater.
