Since when have the Roos been the 'Rooboys'? Since after '96? Yep, that's right!
What is it? Ripping us ROYBOYS off eh! Well, considering that Roy and Boy tend to rhyme, it's a good bet that this was the reason for the words being coupled together. Seeing, Roo and Boy don't ryhme, you would then have to assume, that in the absence of any similar moniker in the AFL (at least), that the Roos have taken it upon themselves to at least try to emulate the ROYS greatness. Shame that Roo and Boy don't rhyme though.

Fair enough Rooboy - however, I'm talking more of the club initiated push in regards to "Rooboys", rather than just a case of individual insanity.

No need for name calling Olmy... It's Rooboy 96 and don't forget it...
The term ROOBOY is actually older than SHINBONERS. I believe it comes from a Newspaper article from the early 1920's when we were trying to get into the VFL. It was comment from the Essendon President of the day who was upset with North merging with the Essendon Amatuers.
ROYBOYS came after that.

There was a Sir Richard Fitzroy 1186-1270 who lived in Kent England & had 5 sons, Oliver Geoffrey, John, Ivo & Eudo.
They were commonly known as the Royboys.
