Use this sticky thread for Rookie of the Year posts........
Choose from the following players each week.......
Cain Ackland, Dean Brogan, Shaun Burgoyne, Domenic Cassisi, Wade Champion, Brett Ebert, Stephen Gilham, Chris Hall, Paul Koulouriotis, Adam Morgan, Steven Salopek, Toby Thurstans and Damon White.
Our 2 rookies may also get a chance during the season - Joel Patful and Scott Borlace
I've added them up now. Assuming that dreamkillers cryptic comment about the Tiwi Islands game contains a similar vote to nearly everyone else, the scores are :
Thurstans 41
Salopek 25
Cassisi 15
S.Burgoyne 3

3 - S Burgoyne
2 - T Thurstans
1 - The Guide dogs
:D
3 - S.Burgoyne. Great forward play but I'd be more confident in giving him 3 if he had kicked properly.
2 - D.Brogan. A consistent marking target. Took some strong grabs and provided a basis for the crumbing forwards. A good back-up when Primus was rested from the ruck.
1. - T.Thurstans. Why did Mark Williams waste time on Adam Morgan when Toby was consistently better in the SANFL than him?
3. Toby Thurstans - already a better option than Wakelin.
2. Dean Brogan - less than 20 games qualifies him, right? Good target to crumb off.
1. Steven Salopek - excellent half forward pressure against a settled Brisbane defence.
Shaun misses out due to actually going backwards from last year's form.

Does Brogan qualify, if he does I'll adjust my votes.

Might be an idea to vote for a rookie as well as a best and fairest. For thiss purpose, a rookie will be a player with less than 20 games. That means Cain Ackland, Dean Brogan, Shaun Burgoyne, Domenic Cassisi, Wade Champion, Brett Ebert, Steven Gilham, Chris Hall, Paul Koulouriotis, Adam Morgan, Steve Salopek, Toby Thurstans and Damon White are eligible.
There ya go.

Missing out: Dom Cassisi - few good touches when he came on right near the death, Steve Salopek - same few good touches, great hands, smart player. Another little bit that impressed me in the last quarter I think it was, he chased down one of the Scott brothers and tackled him down to the ground and they wrestled for a bit, Salopek rolls on to his knees grabs Scott's jumper by the chest shoves him down and runs off to follow the play.

True, but he will be assisted by a base of 3 votes every time he takes the field... ;)

*blinks* Really? Bloody hell he'd better play well enough to deserve 'em then.

New leader next week?
It's getting close at the top, I reckon the thrust may be in a bit of trouble.
Rookie votes v Richmond are :
S.Burgoyne 33
Brogan 32
Thurstans 13
And we have a new leader!
Current standings are :
S.Burgoyne152
Brogan141
Thurstans122
Salopek28

Easy to add up, 8 people voted, all voted the same, Brogan 3, Junior 2, Thrust 1. A bit of fevered multiplication and I come up with :
Brogan 24
S.Burgoyne16
Thrust8
Totals to round 7 :
S.Burgoyne170
Brogan165
Thrust130
Salopek28

Only two who qualify as rookies this week. Can voters give 2 and 1, not 3 and 2. And can we have a few more people voting for rookies?

No problem.
We need a few more rookie to get a game to keep it interesting though, c'mon Chocco keep it interesting!

Maybe we should have included SANFL players in the voting? That would make it interesting indeed...

And now's the time to play them when the team is doing well, rather then forcing them to cover injuries in the last few rounds.

I'd wait until after the Collingwood game before i started playing around with bring in some more rookies.

Hmm, probably right there. Against Freo at footy park in round 11, the saints in 12, the cats in round 14 and the dogs in round 15 I'd hope at least two of Salopek, Cassisi, Koula, Hall, White, Thurstans and Morgan are playing in each of those 4 games. If the cats and dogs especially are still playing as badly by the time we reach them then I'd hope at least 3 get a run in those games.
Gee, this is hard. Bring in a few more rookies, Mark!

Junior had 170 last week, but that was an error, it should have been 168.
Burgoyne 13, Brogan 11
What with names in Russian and Latin, spelling both the same and upside-down votes at least adding up the votes was interesting.

Unlike the Wanganeen awards, this one will be on for young and old till the GF.
Good stuff!!
Pity Thurstans got injured, otherwise with what he showed last week it could have been a three way contest.

Yes, unfortunate. If Thurstans is off for about 4, which seems likely and then he plays just 2 SANFL games before returning he might get 300 points if he plays really well in the last 6 games.

Mic you seem to have added the round 12 votes to the totals after round 10, in the process ignoring round 11.
Well spotted Eago. Unfortunately these errors start to happen more occasionally if you're plodding around on an old computer like mine which would be more use as a Zimmer frame.
