Use this sticky thread for Rookie of the Year posts........

Choose from the following players each week.......

Cain Ackland, Dean Brogan, Shaun Burgoyne, Domenic Cassisi, Wade Champion, Brett Ebert, Stephen Gilham, Chris Hall, Paul Koulouriotis, Adam Morgan, Steven Salopek, Toby Thurstans and Damon White.

Our 2 rookies may also get a chance during the season - Joel Patful and Scott Borlace

I've added them up now. Assuming that dreamkillers cryptic comment about the Tiwi Islands game contains a similar vote to nearly everyone else, the scores are :

Thurstans 41
Salopek 25
Cassisi 15
S.Burgoyne 3

3 - S.Burgoyne. Great forward play but I'd be more confident in giving him 3 if he had kicked properly.

2 - D.Brogan. A consistent marking target. Took some strong grabs and provided a basis for the crumbing forwards. A good back-up when Primus was rested from the ruck.

1. - T.Thurstans. Why did Mark Williams waste time on Adam Morgan when Toby was consistently better in the SANFL than him?

Porthos
6 Apr 2003, 13:17
3. Toby Thurstans - already a better option than Wakelin.
2. Dean Brogan - less than 20 games qualifies him, right? Good target to crumb off.
1. Steven Salopek - excellent half forward pressure against a settled Brisbane defence.

Shaun misses out due to actually going backwards from last year's form.

Does Brogan qualify, if he does I'll adjust my votes.

Missing out: Dom Cassisi - few good touches when he came on right near the death, Steve Salopek - same few good touches, great hands, smart player. Another little bit that impressed me in the last quarter I think it was, he chased down one of the Scott brothers and tackled him down to the ground and they wrestled for a bit, Salopek rolls on to his knees grabs Scott's jumper by the chest shoves him down and runs off to follow the play.

Only two who qualify as rookies this week. Can voters give 2 and 1, not 3 and 2. And can we have a few more people voting for rookies?

No problem.

We need a few more rookie to get a game to keep it interesting though, c'mon Chocco keep it interesting!

Maybe we should have included SANFL players in the voting? That would make it interesting indeed...

And now's the time to play them when the team is doing well, rather then forcing them to cover injuries in the last few rounds.

I'd wait until after the Collingwood game before i started playing around with bring in some more rookies.

Hmm, probably right there. Against Freo at footy park in round 11, the saints in 12, the cats in round 14 and the dogs in round 15 I'd hope at least two of Salopek, Cassisi, Koula, Hall, White, Thurstans and Morgan are playing in each of those 4 games. If the cats and dogs especially are still playing as badly by the time we reach them then I'd hope at least 3 get a run in those games.

Pity Thurstans got injured, otherwise with what he showed last week it could have been a three way contest.

Yes, unfortunate. If Thurstans is off for about 4, which seems likely and then he plays just 2 SANFL games before returning he might get 300 points if he plays really well in the last 6 games.
