Retired Port Adelaide champion Darren Mead will be honoured this Saturday night at the Power’s first home game for 2003.
Supporters will have their chance to congratulate Darren Mead on his record-breaking career and thank him for all the pleasure he has given them over 200 SANFL and AFL matches, when he does a lap of honour around AAMI Stadium prior to the Power v Lions clash.
Mead, 32, who announced his retirement at the end of last season (September 26), will be joined by his two sons Mitchell (3) and Jaxon (1) in the lap of honour. He and his wife Julie will also be guests of the club at its President’s pre-match function.
The club is encouraging all supporters to get to their seats early to cheer one of its champions around the ground. Darren Mead’s lap of honour will take place at approximately 6.45pm. Game starts at 7.10pm.
Mead had a long and distinguished career in the SANFL and AFL as follows:
Total Games:
- 118 SANFL matches (1989 - 1996), 15 goals (for Port Adelaide Football Club)
- 122 AFL matches (1997 - 2002), 8 goals
- 9 SANFL matches (2002), 5 goals (for Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club)
Achievements:
- SANFL premierships: 1988 (reserves), 1994, 1995, 1996
- Vice-Captain 1999-2000
- Best and Fairest 1997
- Best First Year Player 1997
- Members Choice Player of the Year 1997, 1998
- State of Origin side 1997
- Pre-season premiership side 2001, 2002
- First to play 100 AFL games for the Port Adelaide Football Club
- Will be the only person to ever play 100 SANFL and 100 AFL games for the Port Adelaide Football Club.
