View Full Version : How confident are you this week?

It's been a while since you would say that Port are the underdogs at home. So I'm interested to know from Port supporters if you think you can turn around your early season form & win this week. ie. Would you tip your team in a footy tipping competition?

Always tip sa teams at home - even the other mob.

(well, bar one game, had to edit that in...)

Never tipped against Port, not even in 2000.
I am very confident that the team we put on the field will do their utmost and never give in until the final whistle.

I'm pretty confident we can create a good contest. I've tipped us to win by a point, even though Roger The Dodger isnt playing.

If you have to ask that question you obviously know nothing about football or football supporting.

1 word of advice, tip with the brain not with the heart.

(editors note - Port & Collingwood supporters may have trouble locating brain)

I always tip by instinct, which is neither. And I do pretty well.

I see that you remember Glenn Knot and Ben Mitchell. Well unfortunately i live less than 1km from the tree they hit and drive past it everyday. I went to the same school as them, although a couple of years older. Very sad. To this very day the tree still has crosses, flowers, west adelaide guernsey's and all and always the odd person. Very popular young men.

I was going to choose Brisbane, but if we had of won and I had of done so...well not good!

Always have to choose us because we are always capable of winning.

James & Schofield both playing in the sanfl tells me that Chocko thinks he can't win,
Lions by 5 goals plus

To me it means that he wants to ease James & Schofield back into match fitness.......if they were selected in the AFL side and really needed a rest half way through it would be detrimental to the team by having picked them originally.

Much better to ensure James and Schofield can get through a much at SANFL level than testing them at AFL level and having a re-occurance of an injury. They also haven't been named on the ground for their AFL sides with Schofield on the bench and James as an emergency so they more than likely won't play a full match.

I'm sure Chocco and the boys think they can win.........with everyone tipping Brisbane by plenty there is no pressure on our side...........

The worst that can happen is we end up in the same situation as last year and be 0-2 after 2 rounds with another 20 minor round games to play..........I think we had a reasonable minor round last season............

I think you need some fresh bait.........

Damien Hardwick has been replaced in the selected squad by Roger James.

Much more confident now. :)

Looks as though none of you have brains (not surprising) as you are still tipping with the heart.

On a serious note, I was out Port Adelaide way today, and I am deeply disturbed and embarrassed that this place is in SA. No Offence to you guys as I know you all don't live there, but it is the ugliest, cheapest place I've seen in SA.

No wonder they call them a 'different breed' out that way, coz they can't keep their town clean.

Last time i went out there (last week) the Alberton area looked extremely nice. But then i guess your eyes are tainted. It could turn into Unley or Rostrevor and i bet you'd still call it disgusting.

I was out there last Monday and it looked a hell of a lot better than the place I used to call home... seriously, you've seen nothing until you've seen the housing trust section of a country town... at all...

Yeah, Mic I obviously don't know anything about footy, which explains why I'm getting a mixed response to my question ... oh hold on, perhaps it is not so obvious afer all. ;) I know plenty of Port supporters - some who pick the Power regardless & those who this week are picking Brisbane because they can separate their head & heart. I wouldn't call them lesser supporters just for picking against their team as I'm sure they still prefer Port to win & to drop a game in their footy tipping competition.

Well, I suppose when you stand around for the whole day at the Alberton railway station you're not likely to be terribly impressed. But if you think it's such a dump why were you there?

Remember footy's a funny game and in a 2 horse race either side is capable of winning no matter what previous form shows..........

I've tipped Port as I believe at our best we're more than capable of beating Brisbane - given the majority of people and so called experts are tipping Brisbane to win easily the pressure is on them even though it's our home game..............

Most of those people and so called experts would have tipped Adelaide today and we all know what happened there..........:D

I was just trying to get a feel for those Port supporters who will pick Port regardless of whether they thought they would win or not. BTW, it's not a bad thing to put your money where your mouth is. ;)

I've generally found people that win tipping comps over the years tend to not be serious footy supporters..............at work where we have 150 people in a tipping comp the lady that has won the comp for the last 2 years had picked primarily of colours and doesn't follow footy at all.

As for putting my money where my mouth is I generally have a bet or 2 going each week.........

A Brisbane supporter at work gave me 5 goals for tonight's game with the winner getting a bottle of Wild Turkey Bourbon...........

I also have a running bet each year (started in 2000) with a crow supporting mate who is now in WA where we have $50 per game and a carton of Crownies on who finishes higher up the ladder at the end of the year. I've been happy to take the money and beer off of him.........:D
