I'm sick of these ads. It's complete crap. Yes Nicole Livingstone, I would rather pay for sport I've always got for free. Why? Because if I pay then I might get to watch it LIVE. And with decent coverage. And without ads being crammed down my throat at every possibly opportunity.
It's really the most pathetic ad I've ever seen. It seems like an elaborate pisstake. They even go the "Won't someone think of the children" angle FFS.
Thoughts?
Yeah, the amount of times they mention that sport should be for "all Australians" makes it sound as if the ad was written by Kevin Rudd.
Personally, I prefer paying for sport, because Foxtel's coverage is always so much better in quality and depth.
Bad luck to the people who can't afford pay TV, they should be working 24/7 so they can afford to get it, not wasting good working time watching sport.

No-one's stopping FTA showing it geniuses. But if Foxtel wants to show it live, then why should that not be allowed?

They aren't saying Fox should stop showing it, they are just fighting for it to remain on FTA as well.
Does anyone think the Extra money some of the smaller sports get from Fox could help them?
As if they were sports never on FTA, They would be able to use the money?

Surely those saying there is better quality in sport coverage on Foxtel aren't referring to its coverage of AFL? Absolute shizen.
Foxtel is an absolutel farce. We should be streaming as much sport and downloading as many TV shows and movies off the net as possible so that corporation keels over and dies.

This can be said for pretty much any good or service provided. Truth is, if you want a good quality service, you're probably going to have to pay for it.

I was referring to sport in general, but I do think the Foxtel coverage of footy is better than that on Channel 7 and Channel 10. You'll also get to see sports that FTA channels just would not have any interest in showing (Foxtel show live soccer, tennis, cricket, etc. that wouldn't even rate a mention on FTA news sports reports).

You're kidding with those two sports, unfortunately they are on FTA. As to other crappy sports, the reason they aren't on FTA is because bugger all people are interested in them, so sponsors won't sign up to advertise for those sports.
Next year would I rather watch live Moto GP [125,250 & Moto] with good commentators who are at the track or watch delayed telecasts with Greg "Australias Casey Stoner" Rust and Daryl Beattie sitting in a studio commentating off one TV screen ?
Hmm.....tough choice

You reckon I could watch New Zealand vs Sri Lanka live on FTA? It's on live right now on Foxtel. Same with the US Open, English Premier League, etc. You've got no hope of seeing that on FTA.
Mainstream appeal doesn't really mean much in terms of how I enjoy a sport either. I do not consider snooker, bowling, darts, etc. 'crappy', and I am glad that Foxtel show this much diversity.

No, because apart from a handful of people no one would watch it, actually you're not watching it, you're on the computer. :D
People like you who would watch a tiddly winks game can keep paying for the privilege, but keep OUR game on FTA, because the majority of Aussies watch it.

The New Fox Satalite will see a heap more channels over the next few months to years, so who knows what will happen?

You sound like everything you want you must get??
you cant always get what you want you know? not getting what you want builds character:p

Do you realise that the reason OUR game is on Foxtel is because OUR FTA TV networks had no interest in showing 8 games per week, particularly in the Northern States where it doesn't rate very well at all?
This thread is about sport in general by the way, not just footy, and the amount of sport shown in this country would plummet without Foxtel.

Yes how else could you watch the hotdog eating contests? :p;)

ESPN shows spelling bees :D. Haven't ever watched them personally, but I guess they must have some sort of following...

Agree with all of that plus where I live doesn't even have ONE(not sure we're ever getting it ) yet we have channel 10(well Southern Cross) and through SC we get the ads for ONE. Go figure.
No channel 9 where I live either so the only way to watch Wimbledon is on Fox.
Fox provides a fantastic sports service that so far the FTA channels haven't even tried competing with.
when they come up with a product that is equal to that of Fox's, they can lobby for all Sports on FTA

You can laugh about the 'All Australians' part, but that's what the anti siphoning laws are about, and why the ad is being produced. There is a list of events that are deemed to have significant national importance, and these events can't be exclusively shown on pay-tv. It's fair enough. Look back to the last soccer World Cup. Would it have been fair to show Australia's games only on Pay-TV?

But you're missing the point.
People on the whole aren't against sport being on FTA, simply against sport being exclusive to FTA who then delay it so they can show a lifestyle show, for example.
Imagine if Channel 7 had the soccer rights and put a World Cup qualifier on an hour delay show they could show Border Security?
We just want to be able to watch live footy, cricket, tennis etc rather than have to wait an hour or more because it's been decreed as a "must" to be seen on FTA.

Jeebus, they aren't lobbying for all sports to be on FTA, just the ones that have traditionally been, like Aussiie Rules.

Without Foxtel I'd get 2, maybe 3 games of AFL live per week.
With Foxtel I get 7-8 games of AFL live per week.
I'll stick with Foxtel thanks.
I've never understood these adds.
FTA channels have the right to buy anything they want and show it, if they don't then odds are foxtel takes it (eg soccer & 'away' cricket). If they don't match the bid then they don't show it, it has nothing to do with the fear of losing sport it is their own money first attitude where they won't show something like the ASHES (thank you SBS) because they worry about ratings & revenue but then they whinge about not showing stuff they ... could ****ing show if they wanted.
Edit: ONEHD is absolutely fantastic for sport, specifically american sport. 3 live NBA games a week? hell yes, that is sensational.

this. hopefully fta multi-streaming can accelerate the process.
