Ok, here's my shot!

B: B.Stephen, F.Hughson, G.Pert
HB: K.Murray, P.Roos, H.Merrigan
C: W.Irwin, J.Murphy, W.Smallhorn
HF: R.Osborne, B.Quinlan, D.Ryan
F: J.Moriarty, A.Lynch, G.Wilson
Foll: A.Gale, A.Ruthven, H.Bunton
Inter: N.Brown, M.Conlan, D.McMahon, P.Trotter

I'm sure I've left out a few obvious ones (as this one was done off the top of my head - but it's as good a place as any to start).

Anybody else willing to give it a shot? (Gotta be worth it, even if just to beat the Roos board!).

I'll probably make a few alterations myself, later!

I have a personal rule along the lines of not ranking players I've never seen play; so I'll stick to that and pick a side from my era - 1976 to 1996.

B: Ross Thornton, Gary Pert, Laurie Serafini
HB: Scott Clayton, Paul Roos (VC), Grant Lawrie
C: Darren Kappler, Les Parish, Matthew Armstong
HF: Micky Conlan, Bernie Quinlan, David McMahon
F: Richard Osborne, Alastair Lynch, Leon Harris
Foll: Ron Alexander, Warwick Irwin, Garry Wilson (C)
I/C: Harvey Merrigan, John Blakey, Matt Rendell, Brad Boyd

Apologies if I've overlooked anyone... http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/smile.gif

I just thought this was such a worthy topic, it deserved to be resurrected. How 'bout it, people?

Kev, what are you thinking? Anyone can see the obvious omission of Ashley Matthews renders your selection void of any credibility . . .

Can't find Paul Morrish in there either! http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/redface.gif

Kevin Caton, Peter Doyle, Joe Cormack, Dean(?) Wilkinson . . .

Sorry, that's DARREN Wilkinson!

Kev, hate to be picky, but wasn't Ross Tilley a ruckman, rather than a ruck-rover?

Another one who has escaped your mention is Darren Boldon (sic?).

Anthony Carafa? Mark Zarafa? (Or am I thinking of something else with Zarafa?).

Anthony McCarthy, Grant De-Mamiel.

That's PAUL Tilley too, and he was a ruckman. A good West Preston boy; he played in our U/19s Premiership side in 1982.

Is that Robert BOLZON too?

WELL THEN WE'LL HAVE A BLOOMIN MAGOOS SIDE!

Some grant names there that I omitted. Sorry about the Tilley stuff-up. But I knew he was ruckman, though, it was just hard to squeeze the four ruckmen I'd thought of into the team.

I can't believe Matty Rendell got only one mention, and that on the IC bench as well.

Mobbenf*hrer, if you are to make a reserves team, can I nominate Mark Scott as captain with Keith Thomas as vice-captain.

Good call for Roger Delaney at full back. I was set upon by an old Fitzroy woman at a reserves game in 1990 for giving him a razz. This was at a time when Port Adelaide were going to leave the SANFL and join the AFL, before the SANFL gave in and formed the Crows. He was being lead down the race at Princes Park, ankle injury I think. And me, being a typical 15 year old smart arse, yelled out "You can stay off Delaney, Port Adelaide will need a full back next year".
This old lady slapped me over the back of my head and said "You rude bastard, how dare you criticise a Royboy". I promptly felt the need for some "ultra violence", but withheld the urge and walked off to sulk. I've never been one to bag players for the sake of it, but let's face it, Delvine was a better footballer than Roger.

Cheers,
FitzroyRamone

Thanks FitzroyRamone - I thought I was the only person who thought that way. A little while ago there was a post on the main board about "Worst recruits", and he immediately sprang to mind. I posted my thoughts - and geez, did I get set upon! I certainly couldn't remember him doing ANYTHING good - except go home.

Mein Fuhrer,

A bit rough on Dean Turner - he was outstanding in 86 finals ( as was Garry Keane ). How about Peter Bird ?

Pretty piss poor effort that can't find room for David Donato.

Missed a golden opportunity to have Peter Bourke on one wing and Peter Burke on the other!

I wasn't claiming they were all duds! Pizzle (Jeff Bruce) for instance was a promising talent before Nunan got in a huff with him.

Donato, Ash Matthews, jeepers the list never ends. Yeah I put some names in because they were little-knowns, whether decent or indecent players though wasn't the gist of it!

I had also thought of Mark Scott, and who could forget Billy Lokan!
