View Full Version : Fremantle and we cam back to Earth.
Just got home from the match - Freo didnt win it Sydney lost it. Fremantle's skill levels were bloody shocking with Sydney all over them in the first quarter.
I cant put my finger on it but there seems to be a quantum leap between players like Goodes and Williams who is a bulldog and the rest.
And it shows up big time when a side like Freo put the pressure on them - What is going to happen when they meet the top sides ?

Bad luck swans. I wouldn't be to concerned if I were you because (despite what the Vic's say ) it is had to travel ACROSS THE CONTINENT albiet 3 times harder to go west to east.
The swans showed some good signs but I think credit must go to our defensive effort which made scoring difficult.
It may look a bit scrappy but it is effective.
Last Yr we kept the Hawks to 4 goals and 2 of them were kicked in the last qtr. Also similar blanketing jobs were done on the bombers, tigers, geelong & collingwood.
Still think you are top 8 material.

Plenty of work to be done. Didn't help that we had no real ruckman - we were giving away about a foot in height all over the ground :D
Still, in amongst the rubbish being served up by the players (allowing freo players to get loose, not having the ability to deliver to a sydney player on the full, kicking straight), there were some good signs from teh younger kids. They'll be better for teh experience.

I was at that match with with my hubby (the Sydney supporter) yesterday, & from what I saw, I don't reckon either Sydney or Freo will make the eight......could be wrong of course.....Freo didn't play well, Sydney just played even worse. Although, there was a 10 minute or so patch in the last quarter where Sydney looked alright. One thing I do have to say about several of the Sydney supporters who were sitting behind us......your team only plays here once this season.....You're mean to be there supporting them....so why the hell did you leave near the beginnning of the last quarter????? So-called "supporters" like that really **** me off.
The one good thing that came out of that match was the absolute class of Goodes. This guy has the presence and stature to be anything. His performance for the entire match was incredible, he is Brownlow material and will be in with a real chance if he keeps this up.
If ever a guy deserved the captaincy - it is him and Roos should give him greater consideration next year. VC would be the way to go for 2003.
A Negative was the indecision shown by Sydney players when kicking after taking a mark or a free. By the time they had decided where to kick to - Freo had already worked the play out. The worst offender was Maxfield who at times looked confused.
I was disappointed with Hall he needs to improve his kicking - he has a great pair of hands and is a bullock going for the ball but on a few occasions his kicking was wildly astray, He should have ended up with 5 goals. Warfe - why do they persist with him.
Williams had a quiet day and Cresswell when he did get a chance showed nothing. The guy who bottled up Headland had a corker and had him worried all day. Bolton looks like he could have been a one match wonder - he didnt do much.
In general, the older players let the younger ones down.As stated Freo didnt win it - Sydney lost it.

Cresswell didn't play  He is out for 3-4 weeks with an injury
:o
Apologies I was right behind the dugout with a few others and it was Ryan O'Keefe I was referring to. To Cresswell - my apologies.
To O'Keefe the statement stands.
