There was once a time before Bigfooty in eth-dogs life, which won't be touched on in this particular post.
At the start of the year there was a lot of speculation at the Essendon football club, being underrated by a lot of people all over Australia, when they were quietly gaining confidence behind the scenes, which will soon be justified in September.
Round 1 came, and Essendon were heading over to South Australia to Port Adelaide, a game that neither team were sure to be confident or nervous, finishing 4th and 5th last respectively last season. It ended in a poor game for the Bombers, but a positive was their first round draft choice Michael Hurley who held Warren Tredrea to 0 goals. Hurley showed why Essendon picked him at 5 that game.
Next Game was back home against Fremantle Dockers, there was a buzz about the game, and Essendon played brilliant football. Jason Winderlich played a brilliant game in a BOG performance, topped off with a great goal on the run on a tight angle.
Round 3 came up with huge expectations when they came up against Arch-Rivals Carlton, with the Blues being 2-0 and Essendon 1-1, Carlton expecting to win. It was a tight affair, both captains dominating, Carlton skipper Chris Judd with over 30 disposals, Lloyd with 5 goals. The game was won by the bombers by a tight 4 points, a great win for Essendon's players morals.
High after the round 3 win, Essendon were playing North Melbourne in a low-scoring affair. Essendon were underwhelming and got defeated for the second time this year. Brett "Boomer" Harvey dominated for the roos, gaining 3 brownlow medal votes.
Round 5 was ANZAC Day match against Collingwood, the second biggest game of the year. It looked bad for the bombers early with key ruckman David Hille going down with injury, but Essendon rallied and Paddy Ryder hit back, dominating Josh Fraser for the rest of the game. It was won with literally the last kick of the Game by boyhood Essendon supporter David Zaharakis, you can watch the goal on this youtube clip:

Round six and Essendon went north to Queensland to play the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba. Essendon got thrashed and veterans Dustin Fletchers 300th game by breaking his leg. youngster Tayte Pears played a great game, keeping Lion Full-Forward quiet for 3 and 1/2 quarters, but dropping off late letting Bradshaw getting 4 goals.
Round 7 was supposed to be a thrashing at the hands of the reigning premiers Hawthorn, and that wasn't what happened. Essendon without #1 defender Dustin Fletcher played brilliantly, the Bombers dominating all over the ground. Everyone played a good game, and that resulted in a 44 point win.
