If you dont get the more mature adult players to help the kids out i think your first few years will be one of being thrashed and crippled with injuries.
You have many talented players but they are not hardened season players .

We get 16 uncontracted players , that will be the mature bigger body players , who that will be no one knows.

What about for when you guys play in the VFL?
Will you guys pick the best mature-age talent out of the AFLQ, or will you just rookie list 5 mature-age types from the WAFL/SANFL/VFL with your 5 picks this year, or will you just back in the kids to hold their own at VFL level?

If the GC guys were smart (and they are) they would rookie list some older experienced players this year for the VFL, then next year they will add the uncontracted players to that mix and likely take some more experienced rookies.
Between 10 or so older rookie listed players and 16 uncontracted guys.. they wont have to spend a draft pick. Look at the uncontracted guys from this year! between Hall, Burgoyne, Lovett and Ball thats a decent start to a team right there!

They should, but I doubt they will given Scotty Clayton's obsession with taking skinny, athletic kids with 'upside'.

Looks like Ball became disgruntled a year too early, would of loved to have coaxed him up here, but would come with a pricey tag, though plenty of money in the cap to front end contracts now before these kids realise how much they can earn down south, especially for clubs who are not benefiting from the draft over the next 3 seasons.

I'm sure they will pick up some players that get de-listed this year then not picked up in the National or Pre-Season Draft.

What do you think Karmichael Hunt was drafted for?

Popularity and money of course. Why else would you draft a Rugby player with no familiarity to our game.
Regardless, the Gold Coast won't have to trade any of their picks, as it's been previously stated, they'll just rookie list a bunch of VFL or Delisted players.

Problem is the only UC's you're likely to get will be fringers...not exactly the class you want to help the kids develop.
If you want to get good players for this, not to mention the marketing appeal of well known players in the start up team, you'll have to trade. I'm not saying GC will trade it's best (i.e. top5) picks as I probably wouldn't, but they'll surely trade some.

I beg to differ on that. With the quality youth that GC are picking up, any uncontracted player with a good 4 or 5 years left in them would seriously consider the GCFC. They'll be challenging for a flag by then you would imagine. Not to mention the money, and the lifestyle/climate that the Gold Coast offers them.

Don't be so sure on that , we will get a few A graders .

Just keep your hands of Pendles. He's Collingwoods future captain so don't even bother.

All fair game I reckon.....got to think of the bigger picture here....we all want a thriving and competitive AFL comp....well as long as it means our own respective clubs aren't the ones facilitating it.....I read somewhere from a Collingwood fan that GC17's swoop on under age David Swallow was all kosher and fair game....no doubt he would have no complaints if GC17 swooped on Pendels.....for nothing!

That's definitely not the case. The Gold Coast could just get in Joel Selwood's ear and offer him 1mil a year with their extended salary cap. No need to bring up this 'loyalty' thing either, there aren't many players in the league that can refuse an offer that's more than double their current salary.
Karmichael Hunt.
Who cares if he can play the game or not, he will smash guys

David Swallow. 186cm and 84 Kilos. Should be one hell of a unit by the start of 2011.
Physically he is more ready than Daniel Rich and he's a better tackler.
