Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anybody knew, or knew a way of finding out, what jumper numbers some of our greats wore to represent Victoria.

Names like; Reynolds, Hutchison, Madden ... even Lloydy (he played the last real s.o.o game if I recall correctly)

I do realise that most of the 'stars' simply played in their original numbers, however if anybody can link me up with some real factual info I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks very much for the replies guys.

Slattery_20; I will definetly consult Mero, he appears to have a unique knowledge base of our great game.

If he enlightens me I'll pass on the information in this thread, because I find it interesting to say the least, and perhaps I'm not the only one ...

Thanks again guys.

Generally they wore their own jumper numbers, as the OP suggests.
There were a few exceptions, however, Simon Madden wore #4 in a few state games, possibly because 27 was already taken by someone else.
(Who I believe was Keith Greig, but am not 100%)

I have one of the #4 Big Vee jumpers that he never got to wear because they made him captain and he wore #1 instead.
Once they got a Big Vee number, they tended to keep it.
I once spoke to Peter Knights about this and he referred to whatever number he wore in State games as his "Big vee number".

Going back in time it would be hard to find that sort of information out, though the AFL would have something on them, I would think. Whether what they have extends to team sheets with jumper numbers, I wouldn't be sure.

You could try Col Hutchinson or Cameron Sinclair at the AFL if you're desperate for the info. They're not as busy now as they usually are with stats.
