7 April was Astro Boy's birthday,How many watched and liked him as Kids?.
I loved Astro Boy. He was fantastic.
I live in Tokyo, and the other night on TV was a game show, and one of the segments was celebrities trying to correctly rank cartoons of the past few decades. Astro Boy came out on top.
Except that he isn't really called Astro Boy. He was created in Japan, and he is called Atom. Astro Boy must be the name he was given when it was taken to the west.

I always watched it on the ABC - did the cartoon Wizard of Oz come after Astro?

After Astroboy it was usually time for stuff like Robo Story, or back when it first came on Star blazers or Battle of the planets. One of my local video haunts has old Starblazers and Astroboy tapes too, plus Kimba the white lion. give me something to watch next weekend will that lot!
Astro Boy and Kimba were created by the same guy too, I believe. Can't remember his name, but there's a whole shop devoted to his stuff here in Odaiba.

Could handle small doses of Astro Boy but loathed Kimba the white lion.
I think you'll find that Tezuka Osamu was the creator of these less than inspiring shows...but each to there own .
