This is seriously one of the best comedies to come out of the states in the last few years.
Love every aspect of the show, the characters are great and it is so well written and all the "dad's" steal the show.
Great to see Ed O'Neill doing what he does best. :thumbsu:
So far I've only seen the pilot, but it was hilarious and a great setup into what looks like a great show.

It's genuine laugh out loud funny, no laugh track, great comedic actors like Ed O'neill and Julie Bowen. Definitely the best new show so far.

Easily the best of the new shows. Pretty much everyone is perfectly cast, and it has some of the most hilarious content of any comedy show airing this 'season'.
This show needs a tad more publicity.
Probably the best new comedy coming out of the USA. The fat gay dude is awesome. It is more of a rolling situation comedy, not a LOLz at a punch line traditional style.

Ten have the rights, not sure when they are screening it.
As early as they can this year if they have any brains... tis a very good show.
Just caught up with this show and have been very impressed, one of the best American sitcoms I've seen for a while.
I lol pretty much every time Phil is on screen. His character is brilliant.
Edward Norton as the bass player from Spandeu Ballet was pretty damn funny too.

At least 7 don't have it.
This is the best comedy since Arrested Development.I've been watching the first 13 episodes this week and it's just hilarious.Loved Cameron as 'Fizbo' the arse kicking clown :D

Yeah Phil is definitely my favourite character. Absolutely hilarious guy. The other Dad's are brilliant too.
A little freaked out, the girl who plays the 15 yr old Haley is actually 19. She looks 12 ffs!
This is the best comedy since Arrested Development.
This.
What a brilliant show this is... hard to believe Ten are sitting on a show of this quality and not showing it.
Cameron my favourite character, closely followed by Phil.

By far the best show on TV right now. Comedy style reminds me alot of Arrested Development. I'm extremely happy it has been renewed for a second season, and if it keeps up this quality I will keep watching and re-watching. Favorite moment so far has proabably been 'the song':
v/CzKtgPXS7PE
'Is it that weird looking lady from England'... :D :D
Pretty disappointing first ep back, by its high standards. Hopefully back on track next week.
Also, the comparisons with AD are apt to an extent, but the producers of this show were smart by ensuring that every ep has a couple of brief saccharine moments that will engage the unwashed masses without alienating the core audience.
 I am amazed that I had never even heard of this show before! But from what I've seen it's definitely a winner :thumbsu:

Saw the first episode recently and thought it was superb.
It's great to see Ed O'Neill back in the spotlight, he's brilliant in this.
Julie Bowen is always a must see and oh, then there's Sofia Vergara.
After the first episode i'm loving the Phil character, although i do get a bit of a 'Michael Scott' vibe from him.
It's up there with Community as my favourite new American comedy of the season.
This show just gets better and better.Yesterdays episode was hilarious
- Cameron as the drummer
- Ben Duggan coming to visit Manny :D
- Luke following Scout out to the backyard
- the banter between Phil and his dad [Fred Willard]

Anyone seen a definite date for it's debut on Ten?
They've been running hilarious little sneak peeks from the pilot for a few weeks now but haven't at any stage told us when it's actually going to premiere.

Bondi Rescue finishes on Tuesday week [8pm] so I wonder if Modern Family will replace it.Slot it inbetween the fat chefs and NCIS and it should get a good audience.

It seems that Ch10 are hoping to play out the whole series in snippets.
I'm hearing May 18th in the timeslot that JUBJUB has suggested

Big fan, watched the first 4 eps
dont know if it will work on Aust television as it does not have a laugh track to tell when it is time for the brain dead masses (aka 2.5 men/big bang theory crowd) to laugh.
If this show bombs here then there is officially no hope for Australian TV.

The previews for this show look great, would be good to finally have an intelligent, genuinely funny sitcom on in primetime again. Hopefully it doesn't end up buried in a late night slot like most of the best sitcoms do these days.
Anything with Ed O'Neill has to be funny.

After seeing all the ads for it in Australia, I was a bit scared that they were going to be the only funny moments in the show. But I was on a plane overseas and got to see the first episode and was laughing very loudly (much to my wife's embarrassment) ... the Lion King moment was one of the funniest scenes I've seen on television for a long, long time.

Ugh, Charlie Sheen has apparently signed on again for the show, ending speculation he would quit- and thus the show would end. God ****ing dam it!!!!:thumbsd:
Anyway, as for Modern Family.. i did like it and will tune in again for the next few weeks at least. I just thought some of the acting didnt seem 100% "natural"... aka like in the Office, which is the style of this show- mockumentary.
Still was very very funny in parts. Love the Latino mother. "My village is famous for the most... what is the word in English? Murders. Yes... murders"

Great ratings, good to see such an obviously good show do well. Hope the viewers stick around and prove that Australia deserves better than fifty hours of Two and a Half Men a week.
Lol, I think I read your post wrong JubJub. :D
Whenever i see the phrase "3 wankers" I immediately think of the show 2 and a half Men. I guess you were talking about.... I dunno the judges off Australias Got Talent???
And the 3 fatsos are the judges off Masterchef??
Initially came on in the background and from what I could hear, I thought it was an advert - but it kept on going, so I had a look and it was obviously a TV show.
So I sat down to watch it - and given it was a prime time show on FTA television, didn't give it a lot of hope, but after a few minutes I was genuinely laughing out loud.
Thought it was excellent. Would definitely watch again. :thumbsu:

It looks promising - however I was pretty jaded given majority of the good jokes were played on TV spots ad nauseam prior to the first episode - so really - these jokes landed fairly flat. Hopefully - a fresh second episode will improve the experience.

Yeah that was the main drawback of that first episode, most of the best bits had already been shown on the previews.
Thought it was OK and will probably watch it again but not sure it's as great as everyone has been making out. I guess it looks good compared to most of the shit-coms around today. Still nowhere near Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm quality though.

Well you can usually tell a fair bit about a series from the first episode. Like I said I thought it was OK, fairly funny in bits (although not as funny as it would have been if you hadn't seen the previews) and it looks better than most of the sit-coms around today.
I just don't think it lived up to all the hype, not yet anyway, and certainly nowhere near the great sit-coms like Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiam. Then again no other sit-coms are close to those two shows either IMO.

The first episode of Seinfeld was crap.If you went by the first episode of a series you'd probably never watch any series in full.Modern Familys first episode was good but it was also possibly the weakest of the series so far.It is a series that gets much much much better, just like Seinfeld did.

I'm guessing you've never seen Peep Show then, or the Office, or Green Wing or Arrested Development. All in that league.
And Modern Family gets better as the season goes on. Give it a bit more of a go! If a first episode is at all good that's a really good sign IMO...I find it always takes a few episodes to get into the characters etc of any show.

I've seen The Office (both UK & US) but I'm only really a fan of the UK original. That's very good but still not as good as Seinfeld or CYE. Have also seen a few episodes of Arrested Development but thought it was a bit overrated, although still better than the average US sitcom.
Not sure if The Mighty Boosh or League of Gentlemen qualify as sitcoms but they would be my next favourite comedy series behind Seinfeld and CYE.
As for Modern Family, I'll definitely give it more of a go. It looks better than most of the sitcoms around today, although I still doubt whether it has the potential to be a really great sitcom.

You're obviously a very decisive person Plugger! Modern Family has amazing potential IMO...it's like 3 tv shows in one. You could make a show based around any of the 3 family's and it'd probably do alright (I know they're all extended family but you know what I mean). It's got good actors in it, good characters and is well written. Not missing any ingredients.
For the record, in my opinion Peep Show beats everything else.
