I guess perhaps Nannes is too old for selection, or they have enough left arm pacemen already?

which shield games will he miss?

He is very highly rated by state quickers, apparently as the best young bowler. Just a reward for some good solid form.

He'll be sent home in a few days too, the way things are going

Good record. Screams domestic cricketer only for mine though.

His improvement in the shorter form of the game, T20 has been immense over the past few months. He had no variety and would continually get smacked from pillar to post. Then you take a look at the next step he took and how he performed in the Champions League and you can definitely understand why he's been picked. If he can bring that form into ODI cricket then he could be a handy asset

Good on him.

Deserves a run. Really improved with nearly every game so fun. Remember his ODD debut vs Tassie. Good luck mate.

he better play!

which shield games will he miss?Just today, then 2 ODDs. The next Shield game's a few weeks away

Don't think he should've got this spot, and do think the selectors are getting a little carried away with Champions League form, but I did say to myself watching it that he'd get a game this summer. Hopefully he does a Siddle with his chance, not a Laughlin.

Also have to wonder why they didn't do this on Friday night - clearly they needed to replace Lee, and not with Henriques who is nowhere near good enough to play as a bowler.

Victorian bias!

Geeves is a bit rough.

Perhaps they've selected him based on his outstanding domestic form last season that saw him take 33 Shield wickets @ 21 and also average 31 with the bat.

His FRC form last season wasn't great, but the season before he took something like 14 wickets @ 13, so he's definitely shown enough in all forms of the domestic game to at least deserve an opportunity.

It's a remarkable rise for Clint.
Less than two years ago he was unfit and unable to get a consistent game for Victoria but he worked his arse off and in the space of a season has become an automatic selection and a prime strike bowler for the reigning champions.

Impossible to know whether he'll make the transition to international cricket but he has certainly earned the opportunity.

Looks like Stuey Clark will never play ODIs again.

Merv saw him play for 5 minutes a few years back.

Yeah, what's happened to Geeves and Laughlin?

Laughlin is injured, plus he was average against S Africa. Geeves is getting more (http://www.cricinfo.com/ausdomestic/engine/match/361292.html) and more (http://www.cricinfo.com/ausdomestic-09/engine/current/match/417671.html) expensive (http://www.cricinfo.com/australia/engine/match/417674.html)

And more! (http://www.cricinfo.com/ausdomestic/engine/match/361308.html) (Remember watching this game - without doubt one of the dumbest spells of bowling I have ever seen.)

Not saying he should be in contention yet, but Mitchell Starc looks promising..

Our current quick bowling stocks aren't looking particularly good...

Johnson
Siddle
Lee
Hilfenhaus
Bollinger

George
Haberfield
Cleary
Duval

Clark
Cockley
Starc

Dorey
Noffke
Knowles
Hogan

Geeves
Drew
Macdonald
Faulkner

Cutting
Rimmington
Walter
McDermott

Nannes
McKay
Hastings
McDonald

The future looks very good (George, Haberfield, Cockley, Starc, McDermott). But the present isn't looking too flash. A lot of the guys are either too raw or they need a couple more seasons of decent form, before being seriously considered.

A fit Shaun Tait and Ryan Harris would be pretty handy right about now...

Far out, I can't believe that with the amount of blokes coming home injured that Shane Watson has managed to avoid it!:D

Maybe he did a deal with the devil? ;)

How's Noffke performing these days? I'd still love to see him given a chance.

That's a jinx if I've ever read one.

Ryan Harris is a pretty good bowler and handy with the bat aswell.

Noffke has probably missed the boat, 2-3 years too late IMO.

We have enough players in the side already who are pretty good at one discipline and handy at the other.
