ENGLAND wicketkeeper Alec Stewart has hinted he might join Nasser Hussain and Andy Caddick in retiring from one-day cricket.

Stewart, 40, said selectors should choose younger players first for the shortened game, with an eye to the 2007 World Cup, but said he was still eager to continue Test cricket.

"As a contracted England player, I am very keen to continue my Test career," Stewart told The Times newspaper.

"Of course should I be selected for one-day internationals I will continue to give my very best. I still believe I'm good enough to play both forms of the game for England but realistically I won't be around in 2007."

Stewart starts his 23rd season with county side Surrey this weekend.

Hussain retired from one-day cricket after England failed to make the Super Six round at this year's World Cup. Caddick retired on March 28.

Both remain Test players.

I think you'll find Nasser Hussain was unhappy with the ECB after the way they handled the Zimbabwe issue, effectively giving him no support.

all the poms international XI's r a bit older in general to us aussies, thats because they dont have as good national-programs to breed in the youngsters.

so stewart will probably go on in test cricket 4 another yr at least

Alec Stewart will be in the next World Cup. He is still playing good cricket and, unless someone comes up in the next few years, he will still be around.
