"Justin Langer will join the Australian Test squad and provide specialist skills in assisting the batters prepare for Test match cricket," Brown said. "He'll also develop plans to assist players cope with the rigours of the Test match game.

Not sure if Tim Neilsen actually does anything any more

JL has the right attitude and handles himself well and hopefully can put any newcomers on the right track.

can't see how he could mentor the likes of ponting, m clarke, katich & hussey of which he played test cricket with.

he already would've been a mentor to north via shield cricket etc. its the likes of hughes etc that he can mentor and have some effect on.

he's probably a bit bored post-cricket. so he just wants to hang out with his mates at test matches and get paid for it.

surely he should have more of a shane warne-type role where he visits the domestic sides and mentors those up and coming batsmen.

JL's a great guy, but what's he going to teach hughes about playing the short ball? not how to dodge, anyway. time for a specialized short-ball coach...
