After finally hearing Diarama and watching the DVD, I must say that this has really inspired me. It is truly a musical masterpiece, songs such as Across The Night, After All These Years and World Upon Your Shoulders are breathtaking in the way they are written, orchestrated and performed. Daniel Johns vocals have really developed.

I knew at the time Tomorrow was released when they were only 14 and 15 that these guys were special and way ahead of what they should have been doing for their age. Now at the age of 22, I shiver at the thought of what they will produce in the next 10 years or so. Easily the best band in Australia.

They are 10 years above themselves in terms of material and songwriting.

anyone elses thoughts?

After listening to Silverchair most of the junk on the radio seems amatuer and 2nd rate. These guys leave everyone for dead.

Daniel Jones is as close to a musical genius as Australia has had in the last 20 years. Shame that they seemed more popular when they were young and raw than now when they are producing very high quality music.

Neon Ballroom is probably still my favourite, but Diorama is a magnificent album.

Daniel Johns and co. are a credit to Aussie Music.

Although I love their new stuff, I wouldnt mind them throwing in a good rock track here and there like some of their earlier stuff...Freak, Tomorrow, Pure Massacre etc...

Every song of theirs now seems to have an orchestra, a choir etc etc...I wouldnt mind a few tracks with just the three of them rocking hard like they used to. I still like them though.

Don't really do much for me. Daniel Johns voice is sounding particularly nasal to me, actually, can't stand it.

BTW, is that Guy Pearce in the latest filmclip, the silent movie one?

Better than that? Some of their best stuff is their early stuff from Frogstomp and Freak Show. Cemetery, Suicidal Dream, Tomorrow, Isreals Son, Shade, Abuse Me etc are some of their best tracks.

As a whole I think their best album is still Neon Ballroom, all killers no fillers!

Be interesting to see what songs people would use if they could have a best of Chair album. 12 songs, which ones would you pick? Tough question! Most of my twelve would probably come from Frogstomp and Freakshow....although I love their new stuff. Maybe cos their older stuff is now kind of classic.

I recently made my own Silverchair greatest hits cd (my favourites) with the following playlist:

Across the Night
After All These Years
Open Fire (Ana's Song)
Anthem For the Year 2000
Cemetery
Do You Feel the Same
Emotion Sickness
Freak
Luv Your Life
Miss You Love
My Favourite Thing
Pure Massacre
The Greatest View
Tomorrow
Tuna In The Brine
Without You
World On Your Shoulders

Admittedly, I can squeeze more songs onto a CD than record industry people are prepared to!

You've got almost all of Diorama on you best of. Mine would definitely have Tomorrow, Isreal's Son, Freak, Cemetery, The Door, Suicidal Dream, Pure Massacre, Shade, Abuse Me and I havent even gotten to Neon Ballroom or Diorama yet.

I couldnt go past Emotion Sickness, Open Fire, Miss You Love, Steam Will Rise, or Black Tangled Heart on Neon and then their is Luv Your Life, Tuna In The Brine, After All These Years and My Favourite Thing off Diorama...

Ahhh too many good songs :D

I was never really a fan till I heard Diorama, which is absolutely brilliant!!!!!!!!! It surprised me I must say.

Van Dyke Parks, who is a film score composer and songwriter (collaborated with Brian Wilson extensively) worked with Johns on some of the scores (songs such as 'Across the Night' and a couple others) said that Johns has the same kind of talent as Brian Wilson, and I have to say I fully agree. The guy is brilliant.

That is one hell of a compliment.

I always liked older silverchair stuff, but how can you compare a song like Pure Massacre to Across The night. The song is techincally much much better, the players are better. A few years ago I probably wouldn't have liked the new stuff as much, but my I have started to understand what music is all about.

Still like the old stuff and can understand how a lot would as it rocks harder, but musically Diorama is an another level.

Not anymore. Capital 's' now, although I still like the lowercase one.

Spidergirl, I think you're missing the point with the 'chair- they've grown up and so has their music. It's far more rewarding to listen to now - but that's not to say the heavy stuf is crap.

Freak still rocks all hell when played live ('specially when you're ten rows from the front! :D )
