The jumpers have arrived.
They look great.
All we have to do now is pay for them.
Yours truly will be standing in Katoomba Street, outside the Waterboard Office, selling raffle tickets. We have a signed Sydney Swans Jumper, donated by the self-effacing Swans.
After the Bathurst Fiasco (the mountain lions were outran in the first game at The Swamp) the signed Sydney Swans Jumper (SSSJ) ended up with Dave Bridgeland, aka Flava Dave - the DJ from Main Street Funk (every Friday night at Tres Elies Greek Restaurant and Night-Spot on Bathurst Road).
Now Dave is a Collingwood Supporter. He’s not one-eyed, he’s completely blind. He suggested that there was nothing wrong with the jumper that a bit of bleach wouldn’t fix - besides, he was going to give it to the Saint Vinnie’s Bin.
It’s amazing how many Pies supporters there are in the Swans backyard. There’s Charlie Body, the coalminer who’s worth three or four midfielders. Dan Martin, a one time Basketballer who is the son of the Member for the State Seat of Bathurst, ex Lithgow Mayor, Gerard Martin. Gerard played for Lithgow Shamrocks, in the League, and his son barracks for Collingwood.
Gordon McDermott played for Collingwood in 1958 - in the seconds mainly. Gordon turned up in February and took the boys as a coach for a few months. We all learnt so much, and still had more to learn.
Unfortunately Gordon has had to drop out due to family reasons and it’s a big loss. He dropped the bombshell at Wednesday Night training before the Bathurst game. He didn’t attend the first game, but the Queenslander - big Brent Kelly took up the slack.
There was tension in the camp after the loss to Bathurst, and the club needs to pull together before the next game, which is against Parkes at Bathurst on May 10.
We have decided to have a function at our sponsor - the Lithgow Hotel - on May 3. It’ll be our first ever jumper presentation day, and an opportunity to bond as a team.
The Lithgow blokes are a bit disappointed at the numbers to training at Tony Luchetti of a Wednesday night.
We train Tuesdays in Katoomba and Wednesdays in Lithgow, and it’s a strain drivin the better part of fifty k’s too and from kicking a football after you’ve been at work all day.
The solution may be to give up working.
