View Full Version : Funny feeling . . .
I've got a funny feeling about the game coming up against Geelong in two weeks time.
Although they've never beaten us in the real stuff, Geelong did scrape a win against us in the pre-season, and I reckon they must surely be out to post their first proper victory against us.
Although Kardinia Park suits our style of play, I have a feeling that Geelong will see the game as an opportunity to establish some respect for themselves, by putting up a real challenge.
I wouldn't be surprised if Geelong win (not that I would be surprised if we pumped them, either).

That seems to be the go for every game for the boys.......they are being played like it is the Grand Final every week. Anything is possible.
Geelong though? If Geelong pulled it off, that would be it, they wouldn't do anymore for the rest of the year.

I don't know about that. Teams can establish themselves via winning such matches. It would be on a similar scale to when we beat Essendon in 2001, or when we finally beat the Kangaroos in Melbourne in that same year. Not that I would expect the Cats to go as far as we did, even if they did beat us, but it would certainly give a lot of confidence to their playing group (they certainly have a reasonable assembly of talent).
Although there is still a lot of work to be done, I would not write the Cats off just yet either. Sure they had a poor start to the year, but they will most likely win this week, and if they do manage to beat us that will be three wins in a row - momentum gaining.

I did sound a little derogatory, but I sort of meant that the feat of beating the Lions at their moment in time, would take tremendous effort for such a young team that is Geelong, and I am not sure if they could keep the mind set and physical side up for the rest of the season.
Good luck to them, not against us of course, but for their season.
It's a fair point that Stocka makes.
Who would (or could) have believed that after Carlton flogged us in Round 8 of Season 2001, we would roll Essendon only 2 weeks later and than go on to win two Flags in a row.
That Round 8 humiliation was less than 24 short months ago,yet here we stand in April 2003 as the "benchmarks" (And Carton are the reigning wooden spooners)
I do believe that one significant win against the "benchmarks" can not only create the desire and self belief in a potentially good side (such as Geelong) but also drag the supposedly "invincible" side back to the field psychologically.
Essendon were never really the same after we knocked them off at the Gabba in Round 10 of 2001.
That's why staying at the top of the tree is so tough.
If there is even ONE realistic challenger who can give it to you, your aura of invicibility can quickly ebb away.
As someone once said, "If it bleeds, we can kill it"
If we do manage to pull off the hat trick, we truly deserve to be rated as one of the best sides in the history of the game, if not THE best ever team to have played in the AFL/VFL.

the Geelong game holds no fears, as all my fears of a loss, which i swore was gonna happen ,went down the drain last week...
but then again it is football and the not so good teams can sometimes beat the very good teams...
now im scared again...."honey,pass me a beer"

We always belt the Cats at the Cattery.
Looking forward to that one. For some reason Boz (that's Beau McDonald #43 for those who don't know) always has a blinder there against Steven King. Fingers crossed the tradition continues (pardon the pun for all those golf freaks out there).
cheers ... Kaz :)

yeah go boz............
i am gonna be down there for the game.... woo frickety hoo......
i reckon it will be a good game
just have to see who is in the team to say wether we r going to win.......... we certainly can.... by a whole lot...... but.. it will be interesting to see.
If Geelong win this week against the Saints I'll be more comfortable about it. Geelong are fickle and if they feel they are under pressure from the locals they will be more dangerous.

Funny feeling that we'll win by 25 pts!
Went to the game last year and the cats were like U19s vs the Seniors.

Geez, talk about sitting on the fence ;)
I'm pretty confident when we travel down there to play.
Nothing's made me feel any different about the upcoming game.
