Did anyone watch this tonight? Patricia Heaton [Everyone loves Raymond] and Neil Flynn [Scrubs] play the parents to 3 kids, very much in the Malcolm in the middle type show. Watched it because I thought Patricia and Neil would be pretty good. Did enough tonight for me to tune in next week.

Been watching in as it aired in the states. I actually thought the first 2-3 episodes were not that great but it improved after that.

Watched it to the first ad break so far, really liking it.

Didn't expect much as I thought it would just be a "malcolm in the middle" spinoff. It had enough funny moments that I will give it another go next week.

I liked the first ep but I found the 2nd to be cringeworthy terrible and havn't gone back to it. Perhaps it has since improved but shit, it usually takes something pretty poor for me to flat out give up on something so early :D

Thought it was not too bad and will probably watch for as long as Nine show it.

Heaton was surprisingly likeable.

I find it impossible to see Neil Flynn as anything other than the Janitor.

It does feel kinda wrong not seeing him berate JD.

It does seem odd that JD's not there, but also, I keep expecting Marie to come through the front door. Last night's ep was ok. Will keep watching.

The little kid even looks like Dewey from Malcolm in the middle. As in, something is not quite right.

Finally googled that kid and it turns out he's the creepy boy from The Unborn. I knew I recognised him from a movie I saw this year!

Ok, but not great. Good enough to watch for the next couple of episodes to see if it improves.

Alright, someone explain it too me. Are they intentionally blatantly ripping off Malcolm in the middle or is "The Middle" in some kind of agreement with "Malcolm in the middle"?

He suffers from brittle bone disease, which explains his odd look. He's 11 yo but looks about 7.

This show is an unfunny version of Malcolm in the Middle.

Been watching it. Decent enough, It is a bit Malcolmish though.

Speaking of Malcolm, I'm loving ch 10's repeats at the minute. They had 5 episodes in 1 day a few days ago, it was mad!! :p

Read a writeup of it in The West yesterday. "The Middle" is supposed to refer to the middle-class and middle America, whereas the "middle" in Malcolm referred to him being the middle child.

Haven't watched it yet but will give it a chance at some point.

While that's correct there does seem to be a lot of similarities with Malcolm

- odd youngest kid who doesn't seem to socialise with others
- dysfunctional family
- dumb oldest son at home [Axle seems their version of Reese]
- mums name is Frankie, same name as actor that played Malcolm
- the middle kid,Sue,seems to be the kid most focused on like Malcolm

I'm just waiting for there to be appearance by an older son whose living somewhere else [boarding school,Military school] ;)

This is the worst part of it. If they had of got a different looking kid they might of got away with it. The more you watch the more deja vu the whole thing gets.

Its like a average remake of the original. I think ill stick with repeats.

No two ways about it, it's a Malcolm rip-off.

Have persisted with this show into its third season and it's not that bad in terms of a family sitcom.

By the way, the Middle refers to where they live, Iwoa, in the middle of America. Frankie clearly states in the pilot.

Not sure why people are saying its a rip off of Malcolm. Actually very few similarities at all

This is one of those shows that I don't actively dislike, but I do kind of get to the end and wonder why I bothered watching it. It's not that bad - the characters are likeable, the situations are identifiable, the acting is good. But it's also not that funny and not that interesting.

Kind of a bit like its name - middle of the road, unremarkable, bland. If it's on TV and I want to watch TV and there's nothing else on, it's an easy pick. But I wouldn't go to the effort of downloading it or trying to catch the new episodes.
