Want: McVeigh, though he made a mistake deserves another chance i believe and would die for this club deserves a chance
Think: Watson, probably deserves it over everyone else but would rather he have another year to develop with no pressure but then again he may play better when the pressures on
Smokey: Hille, not a huge smokey but looked groomed to be the next before the injury and is well respected among the group
All would make good captains i believe and all would have a different style of captaincy I hope the club makes the right choice going forward and goodluck in 2010:thumbsu:

From the ever credible Herald Sun.
Interesting that they have Ryder in there but no Fletch/Welsh.
From the ever credible Herald Sun.
Interesting that they have Ryder in there but no Fletch/Welsh.I just shook my head when I saw that.
Their journalists obviously just write down a few names that sound familiar. I will never return to BigFooty if Ryder becomes captain of the EFC. He'd have to be in the leadership group first, no?
In an article they produced this week on our young backline, they wrote that we had impressive years from young defenders "Pears, Daniher and Myers". 1 out of 3 ain't bad, right HUN?
Probably Watson, but since I've been saying Welsh for three years, I'll stick with that in the poll.

For real? If so - wtf? Will you still call yourself an Essendon supporter?
I just don't get this kind of attitude. Do you buy Nestle products, even though they use child labour (in Cote d'Ivorie) and irresponsibly market baby milk forumla in the third world?
If those inside the club select McVeigh as skipper, and you therefore deem the club unworthy of your money, I think it rebounds on you - you're not worthy of supporting the club. Especially if McVeigh goes on to be a fine captain and lead the team well into the finals.
If you were joking, please disregard all this (and sorry). There are people like that though, and this rant applies to them.
Whoever is the captain should get automatic support from the supporter base, until they do something that no longer warrants that support.

Yeah, probably over the top, but the kind of supporter-selfishness (which adii might not be guily of) evident at games and with "tearing up my membership" threats, really pisses me off.
I am sorry though for venting and going off topic (I did try to apply it mainly to captaincy...:(:o)

Look i know forums are all about different opinions but I'm sorry i just find that really disrespectful. I know McVeigh was a bad example in 2009 on and off the field but the guy has problems and people need to support him.
Even still he is a respected player and if he was given the captaincy it obviously reflects on how he is rated within the club. To say you would not renew because McVeigh is captain absolutely bewilders me. You are following the EFC as a club not EFC as a captain or one single player. But each to their own i guess.
To be honest i really like McVeigh and i am the first to acknowledge he probably doesn't deserve the captaincy after 2009 but i will back whoever our great club chooses to lead the boys.

The Bombers conceded the fifth-most points in the AFL last season but were excited by the rapid development of young defensive prospects Tayte Pears, David Myers and Darcy Daniher.http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/rear-essendon-bombers-tight-and-united/story-e6frf9jf-1225811532320

you've made a good point. I'll still call myself an essendon supporter, but i really dont want to see the club go backwards. If the club goes backwards, im going to give AFL a break. McVeigh was terrible in 2009, he was caught with many incidences. A night out, late to training... This is a badboys reputation. We dont want that at the club. From what i've been told Jobe Watson is burning it at training, giving more then 110% if possible. Hes the best example of a hard working footballer. McVeigh loves the club im sure, but his lack of awareness and recent form is his downfall. He will be lucky to be in our best 22 next year.
i hope this bites me . but if watson / hille isn't captain then wow.. bad mistake.

If you read anything into this article, it'll be C: Watson, VC: Hille
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/david-hille-on-the-up-side/story-e6frf9if-1225812230630?from=public_rss
Hille, 28, is no certainty for Round 1, but is said to be running at 90 per cent building towards full training early in the new year. He is expected to be named a deputy to Jobe Watson tomorrow.
