And once again pontings buddys stay in the team. How many times do we need to have massive batting colapses before the selectors realise the batting isn't going as great as they think.

Unless Hilfy is still injured, that's extremely harsh

i hope hilf is back fit for the bellerive test :(

hughes is fair enough, but will he open or play down the order? watson and katich have been our best two bats of late so...

Surely we can get a better bowler than Siddle?

He's in horrible form.

One unlucky test at the Gabba and one injured one at the adelaide oval does not= terrible form. He could bowl better, but geez!! 3 tests ago he was regarded as our first bowler picked
I'm guessing Hifenhaus will be out for 6 mths now, reading that article( more extensive rehab)

The four top wicket takers in Shield cricket are all young pacemen playing virtually there first full seasons in George, Walters, Hastings and Cutting. The thought for the selectors would be to give them a few more seasons.

Anyone beating down the door in domestic cricket? Bollinger was but he is in the squad.

Peter George Age 23
24 wickets in 6 matches at 28.83
Is 2 metres tall

Scott Walter Age 20
20 wickets in 5 matches at just over 30
left arm swing bowler

John Hastings Age 24
19 wickets in 5 matches at just under 20
Is 195 cm tall

Ben Cutting Age 22
19 wickets in 5 matches at 25
Is 192 cm

They are the top for wicket takers
None exactly beating down the door but all in all it looks good for the near future

Remember guys - Siddle, home test, huge occasion. He might not have been playing that great recently but a home test might just inspire him for his best. If Hilf was fit, he would be in ahead of Siddle.

Hughes picked - now will the likes of Geoff Lawson stop whinging about it!

Would not call either of them beating down the door. Geeves averages nearly 34 at first class level.

Hastings, along with a few others, is going nicely but not going to get in over a bowler with 50 Test wickets at this stage.

We have a lot of promising young quicks but none are at the stage that they will be picked over Siddle yet.

Having said that Siddle needs to perform in this match, big time.

Siddle himself had played very few first class games when he was picked for the India tour but yes he deserves to be ahead of all of them and by a fair way.

True - but Siddle came into the team from taking 8 or 9 in the Shield final, got picked on the A tour to India and looked good there and that's why they picked him for India.

hilfy's knee wont be right for a while by the looks of. they might have too keep him in cotton woll until the new zealand tour. hughes will probably play. i don't think ponting can play if he can't hold his bat properly

This just in: A man resembling Phillip Hughes has been seen sneaking into Ricky Pontings house to disable his hyperbaric chamber.

So assuming McKay misses out who is going to be the other player left out? You wouldn't have though they would Include Hughes if they didn't intend to play him. So maybe Watson down the order?

Id be picking

Hughes
Katich
Ponting
Watson
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Johnson
Hauritz
Siddle
Bollinger

Someone makes way for Hughes, Hussey has shown some better form of late so North goes.

Also Ponting is in doubt Ive heard, so in that case North comes back in and the order shuffles.

Hughes
Katich
Clarke
Watson
Hussey
North
Haddin
Johnson
Hauritz
Siddle
Bollinger

Hughes is only in the squad as cover for Ponting, will only play if Ponting doesn't.

Good point, but who goes down the order if Ponting is out Or Does Hughes bat 3?

I don't think Hughes will bat at 3 (if he plays).

I'd actually bat Katich at 3.

Watson
Hughes
Katich
Hussey
Clarke
North
Haddin
Johnson
Hauritz
Siddle
Bollinger
