Good to see him step up today. Hadn't ever had big wraps on the guy, but he gave Nathan Brown a towelling and then worked well on Johnson.
Good Stuff, nice and disciplined especially with his punching of the incoming ball. the back three had a good game overall actually, especially with Mal. Hes becoming one of my favs.

ditto...
I thought Ashley had a good and solid game today and is starting to look comfortable amongst the Seniors.
Slowly finding his feet. Improving every week.
Being groomed to take over from Ashcroft.

Love this comment from him.
“I’ve played a little bit forward but I can’t get the gist of it … too much thinking. I don’t mind it down back. You get it (the ball) in front of you and stay on your man.”
Said he lives with Browny. Doesn't Browny live with Possum?

Ash McGrath looks to have finally come of age as a footballer. The huge improvement in his game looks to have come from his decision making, in a very similar way to Headland last year. Not only does he negate an opponent, but he then uses the ball well. Ashcroft has been a fabulous player for the Bears and the Lions but may see the year out from the bench due to Ash's form. The one aspect that McGrath has all over Chopper is his foot speed and ability to make up metres in a short amount of time.

The brains trust are already showing their preference for McGrath over Earl Gray. I think Choppers blanketed completely Brown in the corresponding game last year, yet McGrath still got the nod to do the job yesterday.

Ashcroft looked to be tired and slow yesterday.Maybe he was not feeling the best.
It would be sad to see old father time catch up with him,Hart and Lynch. It looks like it has though.Oh well the positive is that we will have no salary cap problems at the end of the year then.

Don't write them off too soon - Choppers has still got some good football left, and as for Harty - still going strong. Lynchy (when he's fit) plays like a 25 yr-old.

Ash McGrath. I reckon he'd be great to take on picnics. Every picnic requires a quality old style Brown Blanket....
boom-tish.

I think McGrath got the nod on Brown over Ashcroft as Brown led Ashcroft a merry dance in the practice match earlier this year.
Mind you Brown must be hating Brisbane, never gets a kick, the KFC incident and a likely 1-2 week holiday this time.

Ashley McGrath has won against top opponents for 3 weeks in a row now.
He deserves to keep his place.
Beat Leigh Harding even though he had 3 goals kicked against him.
Beat Leon Davis who hardly got a kick.
Beat Nathan Brown who has been a prolific goal kicker this year.
I must admit to not being a fan but started to take notice of his heroic commitment with his body against the Kangaroos.
Agree with Bjay regarding Ashcroft, Hart and Lynch.
They still have much to give and only at season's end would I contemplate any of them retiring.
Numerous players get rotated off the bench these days.
This keeps fresh legs for tight situations.
Regarding yesterday's game.
I was very disappointed!!!!!
Overall, we looked a very tired team.
Not just one player, all of them.
Some of the unforced errors made were pretty bad.
The team of 2000 would have kicked 10 goals in that last quarter.
Maybe I have become too conditioned to their brilliance on most occasions.
I just hope Leigh gives them a very light run this week.
it has been a torrid opening 4 games this season so far.

Totally agree. How humid WAS it in Brisbane on Sunday? Brennan looked as though he'd spent all his petrol tickets by half way through the second quarter. Even Vossy looked buggered.

It was very humid on Sunday. A couple of days of intermittent heavy rain, coupled with patches of sunshine, will do it every time.
It was uncomfortable in the crowd , let alone to play.
Brennan, I think it was in the 4th quarter when he was sucking in the air. All our players looked flat as, Nige was looking real shaky at one stage.
