Ponting has been about for awhile now.
the more he plays the more records will tumble.

Surely our greatest bat since bradman or is he still behind G.Chappell?

how many more of these records can he break?

5th most tests - 140 (steve waugh 168)
8th most odi's - 330 (jayasuriya 444)

5th most catches in tests - 162 (dravid 188)
3rd most catches in odi's - 141 (jayawardene 165)

5th most tests as captain - 65 (border 93)
2nd most odi's as captain - 199 (fleming 218)

3rd most runs in test cricket (tendulkar)
3rd most runs in odi's (tendulkar)

2nd most test centuries - 38 (tendulkar 43)
2nd most odi centuries - 28 (tendulkar 45)

MOST wins as test captain - 42 (broke steve waugh's 41 today)
MOST wins as odi captain - 145 (border the only other over 100, on 107)

MOST wins as a test player - 93 (broke shane warne's 92 today)
2ND most wins as odi player - 232 (jayasuriya 233)

a pity records aren't kept on run-outs either.:thumbsu:

I think the only records beyond his reach on that list are Borders 93 tests and Tendulkars ODI runs and centuries.

well he needs to play 29 tests as captain to break border's 93.
playing 29 tests will also give him the most tests played at the same time breaking steve waugh's 168 - unless tendulkar breaks that.

it all depends on how much longer ponting has in the game. he's just turned 35. he has hinted at getting to england for 2013, but in his current form over the last 3 years you would have to say its beyond him at this point.

providing ponting doesn't miss a game thru injury and continues playing he'd play and no tours are cancelled or downgraded:

2 more against pakistan this series
2 v nz in nz
2 v pak in eng
2 v bang (top end series postponed from 2008) - yet to be confirmed
5 v eng in aust next summer

world cup

2 v bang in bang
3 v sl in sl
3 v sa in sa
nz & ind in aust (2 & 4 or 3 & 3)

3 v wi in wi (april 2012) - most tests played and as capt (providing he's still captain and playing)

the ashes next year could be a fitting finish if he intends to finish odi's at the world cup.

i'd like to see him go 2 more aussie summers.

You forgot,

1. Biggest head in Australian Cricket!

2. Has told the MOST little children to F%#@ OFF more times than any other cricketer (or sportsman) when they asked him for an autograph! (Except when there is a camera around).

3. The worst captain Australia has ever had.

He looks to me to be on the decline. If we can win the ashes back I don't think he will go on
