Although, for a younger generation, the mention of his name may result in a 'who?', Warren Beatty remains one of the most important figures of the 60s-70s. Not just for his filmmaking output which, although hardly prolific, was crucial for an understanding of the period, but also for his contibutions to the culture of the time.

I am a huge fan and just wish he would make one more movie. However, a new book claims that he slept with 12,775 different women which would explain his limited filmmaking output.

I actually must be one of the very few people to sit through Ishtar.

Lilith was a terrific film as well. But I love anything from Robert Rossen.

As for the sleeping with all those women, well Hollywood seems like a very incestuous, unusual place.

Some of these Hollywood biographers are just laughable (seriously how could Beatty sleep with so many people). One of the more infamous biographers is Darwin Porter. He claims to have had close friendships with people such as Tennessee Williams, Elia Kazan, Lana Turner, Eartha Kitt among many others. Conveniently, his subjects and sources are all dead.

I have read the above biography and let me just say that...well I don't really know what to say...

I am always happy to meet another fan of Ishtar. Personally I think it is hilarious. I might start a facebook group or something for fans of the film and we could meet in a telephone box somewhere once a month.

I too love "Lilith". I believe Beatty and Rossen did not get along, but the finished product is an exquisite film, with beautiful, ethereal direction. If there is anything letting it down it is the casting of Jean Seberg, who is not quite right for the role.

David Thompson has also trashed the Newman bio in the latest Sight and Sound. I won't be wasting my money on that one.

Carly Simon writes a song about him and he probably can't remember her name. No doubt just think of her as #6238 or something.

I've heard that Jack Nicholson said that he never took a role first offered to Beatty. But he made the exception with "Terms of Endearment" after the young studio hotshot who approached Beatty was fired soon after.
