This will be one of the most interesting points of 2010 for me - can Fev and Brown really work? I have a funny feeling it will, and with the quality delivery coming in from Black, Power, Rischi, Adcock, Sherman, Rich, Drummond et al. I think it can be deadly.
The backline has also been strengthened significantly with Staker, Raines, Maguire and Clarke recruited to bolster what was a weak point last year.
Prediction: 1-4
I hope they almost go all the way simply to shift the paradigm that everything has to be about "kids, kids, kids"

I am really excited to see how the Fev Brown combo works but i have a funny feeling they will drop some very winable games throughout the year. I think 2-5

I disagree on on Vossys coaching decisionsi mean Bradshaw and brown were goin perfectly and now hes thrown it all away for a potentially better partnership. Cmon Vossy
I am very unsure how the Paddle Pops are going to go this year. Very different team to what they had last year in that their structure and playing style will both be tinkered with. Time will only tell if Voss is crazy or if he is a genius. Will be incredible to watch if the Fev/Brown combination works, much like when Roughy and Buddy got it right in 2008.
I think that they will be a little eratic through the season, but with mature bodies, they should finish the season strongly ready for finals.
Prediction: 6th with 115%

Think they will still struggle against top 4 quality teams, 5-6th.

IMO Vossy is rushing to get that premiership glory again and it could bite him in the bum, but in saying that on paper they look like a great side and will have a great year, with the massive trade week they have pushed the premiership window to 2010-2013 IMO if they dnt make a grandfinal in those years it will be time for their rebuilding phase. Good Luck to the Lions
P.S great preveiw Ben The Gooner

Top 8 definitely but i predict 5/6th in particular.
They will be even better when Brennan is used in the same position on a regular basis. They shouldn't cut Mitch Clarke's time down significantly for Charman or something.
Should be interesting to watch how all their new recruits are used.
Nice spine:
Merret
Goose
Black
Clark/Luey/Charman
Brown
Fev
I think they should of kept Macdonald btw
Always admired the Lions. Great team to watch. But I can't see them finishing above Geelong, St Kilda, WBD or Adelaide (my top 4). Collingwood will fight the top 4 as well but tipping the Lions to host an Elimination Final and get eliminated in the Semis.
Think they will still struggle against top 4 quality teams, 5-6th.
I agree - they have recycled a number of players that were considered unrequired by their former clubs.
Definetely top 8 for me, but I wonder how they will perform against the best in the league.
Midfield has some definite qualities but does it really stack up to Geelong? St Kilda?
3rd - 6th for me.

I can see the Brions either being very successful and in doing so causing a shift to the mature recruits or being a massive flop and making it difficult for them to rebuild in the coming years.
It's a big gamble but Voss does have the core players to pull this off.

Voss traded a tried and successful forward combo for a seasoned binge drinker and arguably one of the most successful players to be undeserving of being in a leadership group. He also selected players who were considered by their respective clubs to be past it. Woosha brought Staker with him to two GFs, so you'd presume that he'd know what it takes to build a Premiership side - not Staker. The Tigers got ninth again with Raines in the side. St Kilda made a GF largely without the service of Maguire. The Lions will take a while to click if they do at all. They'll finish 6th to 8th.

LOL at those 4 adding strength.
Staker and Clarke are ok, but strength is not what you'd pick out as a strong point. I reckon Raines is a perfect example of why rising star awards are not all they've cracked up to be... his 1st season was his career high point, and I think it'll stay that way.
Could see them sneaking into 4th, but that's all. COuld also see it falling apart (like goose's body) in a bad, bad way.
In 2 years they'll be finished, Brown and Black are that team.

When Patfull and Merrett were out, they literally had no key defenders. Brennan was playing full back. They needed cover there, and got it.
Start off slowly, finish with a bang. Out in the semis.

Goose Maguire? He couldn't keep up with quick forwards 3 years and 15 injuries ago. Do not rate. Not even the Blues wanted him, and they don't mind recycling players.
Staker's too lightweight to play kpp IMHO.

Compared to Brennan though, they are the Fletcher and Jakovich of key defenders. I don't expect either of them to squeeze out Merret and Patfull (both of whom I rate), but they are capable of stepping in when the first two get injured.
There just have been too many changes for mine. I don't think they can get the team into a cohesive unit in time to have an impact.

Middle range team at best...
Cant see them any better than 6th but no worse than 11th.
Last year was a first season coach, second up not sure he will have the same impact.
Gabba no longer hold fear it did for visiting teams, but isuppose that is due to the Brisbane team.
Way too many changes for mine.
This is normally what you see from a rebuilding team, not a team challenging for the top 4.
Yes they got rid of some dead wood, but they didnt get much in return.

I reckon top 3, awesome list, Voss has gone Sheedy style, topping up the list with big names instead of rebuilding and having down time. Be interesting to see how they progress.

Remind me what that ended up being like?
Actually don't.
I knew we played the Lions only once in 2010 ... but I didn't realise it was all the way at the end of the fixture in Round 21.
The intricacies of fixtures these days.
I have a different opinion to most.
Have not really improved their side much considering they finished 6th in 2009.
The Older established stars won't get better, and the players drafted in,are marginal AFL players, aside from Fevola.
I expect Brisbane to finish 7th to 10th, and I am leaning towards them missing the finals.
The only thing that may change this is if the 4 to 7 year group of players, make giant strides forward.
Too lazy to explain why right now, so just my prediction:
7-9.

Honest question, do you think essendon will finish higher than brisbane in the home and away season?
Honest question, do you think essendon will finish higher than brisbane in the home and away season?
Lower.
May only be 1 to 2 places.
Essendon needs players who have been in the system 2 to 4 years to step up to win more than 10 1/2 games.

Assuming a good run with injuries
3rd-6th.
strong list - strong rucks, strong forward line, decent backline.(rate patfull as one of the best going).
just think 1st/2nd will be beyond them. can't see saints/cats slipping, and the pies/dogs will be thereabouts again.

I agree, the backmen/flankers brough in are all better MacDonald. I never rated MacDonald.
