The Box Hill Hawks have again embarked on a vigorous recruiting campaign and has attracted four players who have previously been on AFL lists in.
1. Luke Ablett - drafted by the Sydney Swans in the 2000 National Draft with selection 24, made his AFL debut in 2002 and played 133 games. Luke was a member of the 2005 Premiership team and also a member of the Swan’s Leadership Group throughout 2008 and 2009. Luke is only 27 years old and has excelled at his first two training sessions with the club.
2. Ryan Jackson - captain of the Northern Knights in 2005 and was drafted as the number one rookie by Carlton. He was elevated from the rookie list late in the 2006 season and early in the 2007 season before being placed on the senior list in 2008. Ryan played nine games including a 23 possession game against St Kilda in Round 17 of 2007 playing on Robert Harvey. He is 22 years old and set to join BHH later this month.
3. Haydn Kiel - spent 2007 and 2008 on Brisbane's rookie list and 2009 on Hawthorn's rookie list. Haydn displayed great composure in BHH's two 2009 finals game and significantly had the courage to play with a shoulder injury which required post season surgery.
4. Justin Plapp - played 18 games with Richmond between 1998 and 1999 and 26 games with St Kilda between 2000 and 2002. Justin is 32 years old and his experience as a player and coach will be invaluable for the development of our talented young list.

In addition to the above players Shaun Pollard has joined us from Frankston where he was captain in 2008 and 2009. Shaun's experience, leadership and strength will be an asset.

In a previous post I mentioned the BHH have attracted a lot of top quality TAC Cup players to training and I am now in a position to report Michael Thompson who captained the Oakleigh Chargers in 2009 and Brent Wallace who played for the Northern Knights have made a commitment to play at BHH in 2010. The club's strong culture, positive environment and reputation for development of players is proving to be a strong attraction for players to train at the club and sign up. Over the next couple of weeks BHH will be signing up more top quality young players which will further strengthen what is already shaping up to be a very stronger list.

Great Update Huddo - Many thanks. :thumbsu:

We could be in for an entertaining season down at the City Oval.
The influx of talented kids must be counter balanced with a base of senior experience.

Sounds like they've got the mix just right.

There's no point relying on the Hawthorn factor.
History has shown Boxhill's needs are second to the best interests of Hawthorn and their listed players.
(as it should be)

This places BH behind the eightball at times.
Couple that with the revolviong doors of senior players (moving on to better financial deals) and it's hard to build a stable culture.

All things considered Bolton has done a magnificent job in his first season and there is a real sense of unity and purpose in his team.

At a glance the players listed in Huddo's post all fit the mould of what's required.

I think we can look forward to a further development of the team / culture this season and some well deserved succcess.

Looks like we've filled some gaps left by the AFL drafts to some extent (with Pollard replacing Markovic and Ablett/Jackson inserting into the mature midfielder spot vacated by Illes).

Great to hear Kiel's hanging around given he was in quite some form towards the end of the year, and hopefully if we keep our hands on the likes of Pedersen and Curnow, BHH have a good solid list to play our young blokes into.

Is that Terry Wallaces son? He could haver been taken with Father/son but we decided not to take him. If it is him it would be great if he could get on our list next year.

I'm very pleased to report there is more positive news with the signing up of three more top quality young players namely Jayden Cass and David Mirra from Eastern Ranges and Liam Tobin from Sandringham Dragons. They are all very talented young players who along with Michael Thompson represented Vic Metro in the 2009 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships and attended the 2009 Victorian Draft Screening. The club will be signing more quality players over the next couple of weeks.

SS JP, Cam Pedersen and Ed Curnow trained tonight and they are both looking forward to having a successful year playing at BHH.
hawk life, as posted by Dermie The Kid Brent is Terry's son and I agree it would be great if he could get on our list next year. Brent is highly regarded and attended the 2009 Victorian Draft Screening.

Any BHH supporters who are interested in attending BHH training are welcome. The club trains at Waverley on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. The players warm up on the oval from 5.00pm to 5.30pm and then usually attend a 30 minutes briefing in the rooms before returning to the oval at 6.00pm for a two to two and a half hour session. There will be no training on Monday 25th January.

There is a very good article on Luke Ablett, Ryan Jackson and Shaun Pollard on the BHH website. The club is in great shape and I have never been more excited about the prospects of the mighty Mustangs.

Reading these has my mouth watering not to mention my eyes as Bocky is my old home town - through my formative teens to early 30s.

And I have made a promise to myself that I will attend Box Hill games when in Melbourne.

Wouldn't it be great to have both our sides hovering around the top of respective ladders right through the '10 season.

I visited Bocky a couple of years ago ... took this -
