View Full Version : Can we beat Melbourne?

History suggests we can’t: It’s an away game, its after a derby, our forward line tends to go missing outside the state while Melbourne are always dangerous on the rebound. Woosha recons they don’t respect us - they came over here last year and upset us on our home ground so its time we turn the tables and kill several birds with one stone. This game is just as critical as any other game we play this year. I had a feeling this could be our break-through game but then I heard Wirra is out and Kerr is most likely out. So what do you guys think? It’s a big ask…

PS Who is Kasey Chambers? Apparently she watching training at city beach...

yes we can most definately beat them, but it will be tough.

we just got to try and run through the middle more effectively on the home of footy. mcg is a big ground, and if we can play to its advantages and try to avoid the no ponsford stand factor as much as possible then we will be in for a chance.

Kasey Chambers is that country singer....

I had forgotten about Baghdad End, that will make it even more difficult.

i think if the eagles do thier homework on the hole in the wall then it should not make too much of a differance still think the game is up for grabs out of the middle could be more difficult without kerr , plus i think we will need gaspar::D :D :D

i think we can beat them. If we forget were in Melbourne for awhile and play like we do in Perth then watch out Dees. It'll be interesting to see whether Kerr and Wirra pull up...I hope atleast one does!

I think we can, we have been fairly competitive in our first two away games this year, and with Melbourne having shabby form at the moment, it'll be a good chance to break the travel bug..

we can definetaly beat Melbourne - we have a much better midfield, and its a matter of delivering properly into the forward line and our forward taking advantage.

They do have quite a potent forward line, so we must ensure that we get ourselves on top in the middle, which we should be able to do, but if we're not at our best the likes of Leoncelli and Yze can cause damage.

When we leave Perth we seem to forget to man up.

In the Hawthorn game we had too many players not keeping with their man. One of the biggest offenders during that game was Chad Morrison, although it was his first game back.

In the Adelaide game during the third quarter there was a player who kept running between the Josh Wooden and Andrew McLeod match up. We used this tactic to good effect during the Derby when Jones ran between Cousins and Carr.

For us to win we have to be accountable and man up for four quarters.

Can we beat Melbourne? Of course we can!

In fact we did beat them in a scratch match earlier on this year at Optus Oval. Haynes did quite well in that game if my memory is correct.

Our first game in Melbourne for this year too. I reckon Melbourne will come out strong, but Woosha has really fired the boys up this week - he senses that getting Melbourne who are down on confidence is the best way of scoring another away win.

Neitz seems to be causing us more headaches each year. He kicked 4 on McIntosh last year, although I think Milly will still get first crack at him this week.

We can beat Melbourne. No doubt about it. Whether we actually beat them this Saturday though is another question.

Midfield as always will be the most important battle, having at least one of Wirrpunda or Kerr back is vital. I think Kerr being ready to go is more a myth, he looked real bad on Sunday and I doubt he will be even close to ready for weekend. Punda though hopefully will come up, not sure on Gaspar either?

But even if Kerr doesnt play, Fletcher has been fantastic all year, home and away which is important, Cousins is Cousins, Judd shows no signs of second year blues and is travelling along very well. Jones has being in excellent form, Banners too. So I think we can match them and hopefully beat them through the midfield.

Down back will be a problem, Neitz is close to the best FF in the game and Im sure we will see a few different opponents for him on the weekend. Glass may come back into the side, Carroll may get a go and of course their is Milli. Jakovich would probably be too slow and if Gaspar doesnt come up then expect him at CHF again.

I think we need to get the jump on them and lead a quarter time. We trailed Hawthorn and Adelaide pretty much all game so if we can get in front early, that will really build the confidence up.

Go Eagles!!

Depends on if Melbourne has come to play which you'd think they will after the critisicm they faced over losing last week.
If they have than it's almost impossible to beat a half decent team away... As seen by Kangaroos/Brisbane draw.

Still, we should be trying to get some revenge after they beat us at Subi last year and killed our chance of a home final.

Melbourne will think theyre a chance - they know we dont play well away from home

A good start is what we need, if we can get a bit of a buffer early, we'll go a long way to winning it

to quote cornflakes thomas 'we are a better side than them' but we would have to go in as the under dogs just because we can't win over in melbourne.

i would think that we would be without kerr, wirra and gasper (add collica to that list). on the upside wooden would be coming back into the side and adkins or chambers might be up for their first run in the side. i believe that melbourne still have a lot of injuries to their backline. could be a good chance to exploit it.

Neitz is their most important player at the moment. Milli must play on him. Glass or Carroll would get killed in the body on body clashes. Ash did ok on him last year until his knee blew out on him and he was screwed from then.

Does anyone know if we are going to be allowed a training season at the MCG? I would think that it would only be fair.

Also the crowd numbers will be interesting. I'm tipping that this game will have the worst attendance in the league.

If it is still raining in Melbourne, perhaps they had better flood Subi Oval and give them some training in that!
Perhaps they have to be hynotised to remind them they are a better team - and can beat Melbourne.

I wholeheartedly agree. I cringe when she starts hitting those sickeningly piercing high notes.

According to Today's West they will be training at the G at 3.30 pm Friday. Wonder what the difference between us and Freo is, according to the MCC.

Yes.

Would have been better if she used her own voice instead of trying to sound like Cindy.

And yes, we can beat Melbourne over there at the G. It's time the boys stood up and learnt to play footy away. The last generation of Eagles managed to do so, why can't this mob?

It's all in the head.

I like her, she is a great singer.. although that song is not one of her better moments. It doesn't really bother me though because I never liked that song..You should never cover a crap song, unless you can improve on it.

He'll be right, with the ridiculous names people are calling their children these days, he'll fit right in.

It'll be the Johns, Matthews, etc. getting picked on!

We now have patients named Tiger, and more recently Beyonce. That poor poor child.

But with regards Talon, anyone who saw the cover of yesterdays West will know what a good kid he'll grow up to be. He has the best possible start in life.... (I'd post the pic if I could find it)

We could beat Melbourne, and really we should beat Melbourne, but I'm not exactly confident. If we cave in again, we should be angry at ourselves. The chance to set up our season is there for the taking.
