Going to have a look at the my predicted sides, discussions etc for the first one day game on friday. Pakistans team is tough to choose as they may look to include a variety of players I am not fully knowledgable about. Anyway here is goes and would love others views on the teams, results, etc.

Australia;
S.Watson
S.Marsh
R.Ponting
M.Clarke
M.Hussey
J.Hopes
B.Haddin
N.Hauritz
C.McKay
P.Siddle
D.Bollinger
12th Man: C.White

Pakistan;
S.Butt
I.Farhat
Y.Khan
U.Akmal
S.Afridi
M.Yousuf
K.Akmal
M.Aamer
U.Gul
S.Ajmal
M.Asif
12th Man: S.Malik (wanted him in there, not sure who to drop though, maybe one of the openers and open Afridi?)

Johnson is being rested for the first 3 games, has there been any word on any other players being rested throughout the series? Im sure we will as there is 10 games, just a matter of when it happens.

I see the series being a close one as they Paki's are a better ODI side than test side with some players who can really be damaging if they get going in Afridi and Akmal. Also there two strike bowlers have show the ability to take quick wickets if they get it right.

First game i see Australia chasing 260 and making them with 2 overs left :thumbsu:

Surely Cam White will play ahead of Hopes

Cameron White will not be dropped, I can almost guarantee you that.

Hopes for Siddle perhaps?

Hopes for Siddle perhaps?

The only possibility of Hopes getting a game is if he plays ahead of one of the fast men. But even so, he isn't in the ODI squad for Sydney, so I would assume he will be 12th man.

Well they might feel inclined to use him since hes only being used for the one ODI. There is also the prospect of leaving out Marsh giving us:
Haddin
Watson
Ponting
Clarke
White
Hussey
Hopes
Hauritz
McKay
Siddle
Bollinger

Pakistan

Khalid Latif
Salman Butt
Younis Khan
Mohammad Yousuf
Umar Akmal
Shahid Afridi
Kamran Akmal
Umar Gul
Mohammad Aamer
Mohammad Asif
Saeed Ajmal/Abdul Razzaq

Pakistan have a tough decision to make in terms of finding a place to accomodate Razzaq. Played decently against NZ. May find himself as the 12th man for the first game and a couple of others but should feature at some point.

They might choose to go with Razzaq ahead of one of their fast men first up due to a lack of batting depth down the order.

Razzaq wont play as his injured, been told to have a month off on memory. Was in an article on cricinfo not long ago.

Watson
Marsh
Ponting
Clarke
White
Hussey
Haddin
Hauritz
Siddle
Mckay
Bollinger

Is there any logical reason why Siddle should be in the ODI side?

I know he'll play, but why?

Because Lee, Bracken and Hilfenhaus are injured. Johnson is taking a rest and Tait still needs more time to find his best form.

Not looking forward to this series very much, no exciting fast bowlers like Tait and Lee, Johnson being rested, players that are not ODI bowlers (Siddle, Mckay) no South Australian players just gives me little interest at all.

Only problem I see with this lineup (which they may well go with), is you've only got the 5 genuine bowling options.

The only way we can get 6 genuine bowling options is dropping a batter.

Just give the bowling to Marsh and Clarke.

We did it with Lehmann all the time to great effect.

Australia only played with 4 genuine bowling options last summer.

5 is more than sufficient with the other part timers who could turn their arm over.

6 is a luxury but not essential, especially with Watson being in good form with the ball.

Hauritz, Siddle, Hopes, Bollinger, with Watson, White and possibly Clarke to share the last 10?

Hopes.

I'm not sure how White will go at 5/6. His best innings in ODI's so far have been at 3/4. Nevertheless, good form in England and India should see him safe for at least the first few games.

The only reason white worries me is he has barely bowled a ball in the 20/20 comp which I know is different format but still must not have great confidence in himself? And his batting has been far from impressive either. I am happy to be proven wrong but thats my opinion :)

With the inexperienced attack its a luxury we could do with. If one of the front line bowlers have a shocker then we have to stick with them or find another part timer. Speaking of which, who would be that part timer? Clarke seems to be avoiding bowling, White likewise, Marsh bowled a bit but would Ponting really consider him? That leaves Hussey to roll his arm.

McKay.

I think Hopes is almost a certainty given he will miss the next game.
