View Full Version : Australia's ODI Uniform is a Disgrace

Australia's current ODI uniform is terrible. What has happened to the canary yellow. The yellow is a million times better. It's not even green, it's basically black.

Also with the yellow there will be no clashes as there is against pakistan which both teams basically have the same uniform.

C'mon Australia go back to Canary Yellow.

Blame the commonwealth bank and their yellow logo ;)

22 Jan 2010, 15:22
I don't get what its got to do with the Commonwealth Bank Logo, the Redbacks shirt wasn't changed to black because the KFC Logo was red, and the yellow shades are different. I loved the yellow jerseys and I haven't bought a 'black green' jersey.

It's also almost difficult to tell the difference in the colours between the Pakistan jersey and Australia jersey.

Exactly. If there was another sponsor with more suitable logo, the green would be lighter.

The biggest issue is how dark it is and how it looks more and more like NZ's strip. If it actually had a bit more gold (like the Pakistan strip), it might look better. You can hardly read the players numbers and names too.

I have the away shirt - it looks so much better (and is better at the ground too, not as hot as the dark black.......sorry, green).

HSSB
22 Jan 2010, 15:52
Yeah I agree with the hotter/cooler thing. The yellow also looks more exciting, dark green would just look dull.

Bring back the old Spiderweb shirt. Or the 03 WC shirt.

I'm not buying an Aussie shirt until they get back to canary yellow (Or Australian gold as Bill likes to call it), and get rid of those crap half collared necks. Bring back normal collars.

I've still got this one and love it. Unfortunately it's starting to get too small for me now.

The one first worn in India in 2001 is by far and away the best (worn in the 01/02 and 02/03 VB Series).

Agree that the 00/01 with the blue is also top class.

The current one is rubbish. Looks terrible. Dare i say it, un-australian.

23 Jan 2010, 12:23
There are too many teams with Green Shirts these days (Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, Ireland, Kenya as well as Australia at home).

This.

The uniform itself isn't that bad (agree with most sentiments on the gold away uni being better), but the fact that in a made-for-TV game such as 50 over cricket, the uninformed viewer with the short attention span needs to visually differentiate between the two teams, not just "the two guys with the wooden planks against the other 11 and two refs". The two uniforms are a marketing ploy, nothing else, and common sense should prevail and the Aussies should be in Gold.

With a shit TV, their home uniforms don't look too different in shade to the Windies' deep maroon. But there's other, more subtle differences that even the unformed viewer might pick up on between the two teams, yes?;):D

The test shirts actually vary from white to cream, and test shirts don't clash at all, it's not difficult, you would be a tossbag if you couldn't tell the difference. I am just saying the colours were similar.

yep its a disgrace our kits, the pakistan kit looks more australian.

In most sports we have always used good old green an gold(yellow)
I could understand if they changed to our flags colours and design but to change to pretty much all green when so many other teams main colour has been green for ages is just dumb.

we either use green an gold with the gold part the most dominant colour or our flag colours not some stupid green which has nothing to do with our flag or our sporting history.

Just take the red from the flag and add it into the green and gold, the red could also be a link to the origins of the game, ie red cricket ball, and red stains on the strides. Plus no other teams have red yellow and green do they, apart from Cameroon.

unless you take a victorian attitude you can say its "up to you to come up with an alternate strip if your strip clashes with mine"

no afl legislation because the victorian clubs are bigger than the game

pakistan have no away strip

Couldn't agree more. I've been watching test cricket for 30 odd years now and never had trouble telling which team was which despite the fact they both wear white.

reason colours matter is they are representing australia on the sporting field so they should be wearing the colours that most national teams wear which is green an gold.
If they dont want to use that only other option is to use flag colours.

i feel the same way about every sporting team that represents us they must either use green an gold the colours we have used for ages in our sporting history or if they want to do something diff it must use our flags colours

Australia have an away strip because they want to make more money in merchandise sales.

The Australian outfit displayed in these pictures is my favorite. The only thing spoiling it is not having the names on the back up near the top at the collar.

The West Indies should go back to their late 80's outfit when they were predominantly in the light gray. Those looked fantastic imo.

I like the current top, the one with the half collar. The one they had before that was stupid, it had that gold mesh that went all the way up to the neck, I had to cut mine out as alot of the players did as it was restricting.

I think the best one was the yellow stomach, green shoulders and blue under the arms. Was around the time Brett Lee started I think.
