A question re Tim Notting.

Do you think he's still 'building'? Perhaps a FF or CHF in the making? He's quick, a good mark, and a booming kick, and he is a goalkicker.

Or has he started levelling out? Is his current contribution not far short of his best? Will he be a pinch-hitter, perhaps only a full-game player if the depth gets a little drier?

Would love to hear your views. Personally, I find him exciting to watch, and still think there's another gear in him that might kick in soon or in another year or two.

Admittedly I don't get to see him as much as Lions fans but I've always thought of him as a fairly competent footballer, who will add alot to any team (including the Brisbane team) through his sheer 100% effort performances.

At least thats what I've thought of him from my 4 or 5 viewings of him.

Yes he's certainly having a purple patch at the moment.
I think he'd be glad just to be in the side, don't think he cares what position he plays.
Hehe a funny thing, a friend of mine has a new name for him at the moment ... Terminator Tim. :D

cheers ... Kaz

Notting knows it is a make or break year for him. With salary cap pressures, he knows he needs to perform well this year or get the boot. He was close last year. Over the last 2 weeks, he has shown something and he could possibly get better, but he needs to keep this performance up.

Thank you all for your comments! We don't produce a heck of a lot of top footballers from our parts, so it'd be grouse to see him do well.

I remember his first game on the MCG - I think he kicked a bag off half forward V Demons and just looked PERFECT for that ground. He's a player who can be moved forward to break open a game and it's starting to happen. The Pies game showed that. If he can hurt more on the scoreboard - and he can kick the thing a mile - he becomes a match winner ( similar to Leppa ) who will cause match up problems. That's what the coach wants.

Loved his 2001 GF efforts after half time.

I find it a little odd that he seems to have aquired this "pinch hitter of the bench" role.

I flat out remembering the last time he was in the "run on" line-up.

Maybe it's time he was given a "starting" spot somewhere in the forward line and left there to see how he goes.

The Geelong game seems to be a reasonable opportunity to do this.

My Dad, loathe to give out individual praise, has one player he will praise to the hilt. Notting.

I tend to agree with him on the main issue, Notting is vastly underated. Admittadly it works in the Lions favour that he is not one of our lauded players and easily slips under the oposition radar, but he certainly does deserve more praise and acknowledgment than he gets.

Unfortunately tho I think he may be one we lose at the end of this year, fingers crossed I am very wrong on that one.

The bloke can run, mark, kick and turn his hand to a number of positions on the field, he's not a player I'd want to get rid of very quickly.

Your Dad is a pretty good judge, I thinks.

Notting is one of those kinds of players you would HATE to see leave and then turn out against us at some time in the future.

Just because he is so hard to match up on and because you know how much damage he can do.

There could be more on their way, too, with an "L Notting" selected at Centre Half Forward for Tim's hometown team Navarre this weekend.

He needs to learn to kick well with both feet well.

There's no doubting the capabilities of Notting. He is able to do some magnificent things on the football field.

The question is more in regards to his consistency. Whether or not he can be good from week-to-week, and put in for a full four quarters.

So far this year, he's been pretty good most weeks, and is starting to show that he can be more than just a "one-half" player.
