first over just bowle,d Australia 0/6

Best bowling his first ball in test cricket, hooked away.

what the hell was that?????????

arms going everywhere, charges in a million miles in hour

abit of speed but it wont trouble test players.

can't wait to see Banks bowl, going on his FC stats he could be lucky to go for under 100 from 10 overs :D

Langer's just been dropped by the bowler.

hayden gone, caught in slips, terrible execution. Darkes the wicket taker.

Currently 1/52.

1/74 now, dont know how the Windies quicks plan on getting wickets when they bowl from behind the popping crease, can't keep the seem straight and bowl an erratic line and length at best.

I'm a fourth grade bowler and I can do all of those 3 things to a reasonable level. I probably bowl about 3 yards slower than these guys, but they'd be better of dropping it to my level and ensuring teh seem stays straight and get a good line and length.

Langer half century coming up from 62 balls. Score is now 1/93 late in the first session.

They just put up a combined total of test wickets for the two attacks - Australia 830-odd to Windies 37. :D Shouldn't have dropped Dillon - he was their most experienced bowler.

Banks on for his first over.

first ball smashed at cover, but well fielded.

second ball a fully, whipped through widish mid on from ponting for 4.

third ball better length - blocked

fourth ball fully outside off stump - not well tiemd from ponting, run 2. should've been 4.

fifth ball another full toss hit to cover, well fielded again

sixth ball half volley on the pads, whipped through cover for 4.

so far on target to go for 100 from 10 overs :D

the Aussies will have a field day with this guy.

Still dont know whether he can spin it because he bowled three full tossess and three half volleys.

Black Thunder
2 May 2003, 02:03
second over much better - does actually turn a bit. Not an overly troublesome amount, plus it is very slow turn. Unlike Harbajan Singh who caused great distress tothe Aussie batsmen.

Banks wouldn't spin the ball any less than Singh did, but Singh hits the deck and the ball fizzes away leaving no time to adjust.

STUMPS - DAY ONE:

Australia: 3 for 320
Ponting 113
Lehmann 89 not out
Langer 78
Hayden 27
Waugh 7 not out

Australia are in total control after another fine century from Ponting, well supported by Lehmann and Langer.

I still can't believe the West Indies sent us into bat on that pitch!!

What about the form of punter? Surely he'll be rated as the No.1 batsmen in the world soon. I wouldnt bet against him making another hundred this match (if we bat again) and another in the last test either. He's in top form.

Looks like the great mans on his way to a second 100.

Go Boof - would be great to see him get another one.

Ponting - wow! Funnily enough I still think of him as young Ponting. I guess in the context of Australian team he is young - at least for a batsman.

Century number seventeen. He is now entering the league of the great batsman in terms of centuries scored. Only 3 shy of Mark Waugh in fact. If he plays til he's 36 or thereabouts 35 centuries or more is not out of the question. Will probably be well behind Tendulkar of course.

this is just crap now, the Windies aren't even worthy of competition anymore :(

Isn't that his 7th century in the last 11 or 12 tests ?

against two of the weakest "test" attacks we have seen in recent times??

I can only imagine what Braddles would've done against these attacks.

Ponting is a great batsmen, and one of the best hookers of all time, but the standard of the bowling he and his teammates have faced this summer is nothing short of pathetic.

Fair point. But is there really an international attack out there that can really challenge the Aussies at the moment?

Ponting 113
Whoo hoo - he'd be fave for Man of the Series wouldnt you say?

Lehmann 89 not out
GO BOOF - if he can make that 89 ino a tonne his critics surely have to realise he should be in the test 11

Yippee, go Aussies. :o

The windies attack with 9 tests and 37 wickets experience between them would almost go close to the least experienced bowling attack ever wouldn't it. The only bad thing about making 600 against this sort of attack is standing in the filed for the next three days straight.

I hope we win but I might put some money on it being a draw actually. Anyone have the odds for a draw?

Kenny_01
2 May 2003, 20:47
WEST INDIES 5001 $13.00 $
DRAW 5002 $4.00 $
AUSTRALIA 5003 $1.25 $

They are good odds for a draw.

Lehmann out for 96. Another ordinary LBW decision. Why dont these umpires go with the rule that bolwing to a left handed batsmen right arm over the wicket, you just put LBW out of your mind and give them not out. At least they'll be right 95% of the time instead of 95% wrong. You don't see them give LBW's right arm around to a right hander. Same principle applies.

605/9 Declared

Waugh 115
Gilchrist 65

And alrounder Andy Bichel made 71

STUMPS - DAY TWO:

Australia: 9 for 605 declared
Waugh 115
Ponting 113
Lehmann 96
Langer 78
Bichel 71
Gilchrist 65

West Indies: 0 for 89
Gayle 47 not out
Smith 34 not out

There's not a lot in the pitch for the bowlers, a bit of slow turn for MacGill but that's about it.

probably the only attacks with less experience is when nations play in their first couple of tests :o

I amazes me that with search for an "Allrounder" in Australia that we had one under our noses all the time.

If anyone watched the first Shield win by QLD (1995) one A. Bichel made 38 IIRC and it was quite obvious that he could bat even then.

We'll need some quick wickets tonight or it'll be a draw, but then again that's good enough to get the #1 test ranking back again.

Here's an interesting fact...

If Dizzy and McGrath take 10 wickets between them this test or whenever, they will become Australia's most prolific opening bowling partnership in terms of taking wickets.

Lara batted at 8. Bichel got him IBW looked another dubious decision. 8/291 at stumps I think. Gillespie has 3 wickets.

Don't laugh about the Bangla's, they will be a top Test nation in around 8-10 years time. When I went to the subcontinent in 2000, I saw more kids playing cricket in Bangladesh than I did in India, and that's really saying something. Anyone who has been to India will know what I mean !!

a tough day, only 5 wickets. no certainties to win the test. certainties to win the series though and claim the 2 points for the ICC table.

two wickets in the morning should be enough to claim victory. would be nice to see us chase 100 in ten overs at the end to win.

Jason's performance in this match considering what a flat bat track the wicket is has been outstanding - in fact he has been great all tour, clearly head and shoulders above the other bowlers

System still needs to be worked out properly. SA did not deserve to take the trophy away from Australia when the Aussies were a better team than SA.

chicken pox??

replace "chicken" with "raging" and replace "pox" with "hangover" and then you have the problem for Brian Lara :D

this was my suspicion when I first heard the news, and when they said it was his birthday during the test it was confirmed in my mind.
