Adelaide Oval
1:55pm Tuesday January 26
Nothing different to yesterday except it's Australia Day. Australia haven't actually announced a team as far as I know but it's probably the same 11 and 13 as the last two before half the team skip the dead rubber trip to Perth. Pakistan have all sorts of problems - two of them go by the same name, Asif's unlikely, Aamer's batting two spots too high, Gul's still struggling, they've taken the captaincy away from the only guy prepared to do it without having anyone else anywhere near willing and able to take over, they're still sooking over not getting IPL deals and there's a few very ordinary cricketers being made to look good because the rest of the team's shit. Taufel's umpiring, the game's sold out but the SACA are hoping not to have to pay as the electricity bill's getting high with the unexpected Big Bash final and now a 3 day game under lights next week. Not as hot as they were forecasting last week.

Interesting - Bulls have put their Shield squad on their website and mentioned that:
"Boyce replaces pace bowler Ryan Harris who will join Queensland teammate James Hopes in the Australian One Day International squad in Adelaide for the match against Pakistan tomorrow."
Wonder who is out or in doubt?
Haven't found this info anywhere else so far but thought readers here would be interested.:thumbsu:

I think they wanted to expand the squad after the T20's. Although there are still other games being played
Bollinger and Siddle will get a rest at some stage too I would imagine, when Johnson comes back.
Mildly interesting stat:
Australia's attack is so inexperienced in ODIs that their two leading wicket-takers are Shane Watson (104) and Michael Clarke (52)
Siddle with a back problem according to 10. Someone on here predicted that Siddle might have a injury concern the other day. Good call.

Will be good for Harris to get a run if he does! :thumbsu:
I'm hoping Afridi can fire. should be a ripping game :D
I thought Johnson was playing?
Will be there, go the Aussies :D
Got tickets to the game and looking forward to it!!:D Hopefully Pakistan can put up some sort of fight:o make the game just a tad more entertaining.
I think WA gets this one live. The Aus day ODI is the only weekday ODI we get live.
The Pakistani problems were nicely summed up. Though I think there is some good talent there, they have hit rock bottom. Who knows what would of happened if they had got across the line in the Sydney test.
Surley Rimmington should get a game ahead of Harris.

Might of run over his dog while he was walking to the beach :p:D
How about we give a couple of the blokes who have missed out in the first ODI's a go tomorrow? I'm sure Clarke and Hussey could do with a rest.

Would be nice to see Pakistan have a win tomorrow to keep the series alive, otherwise the last two matches in Perth will be a waste of time.
They'll need a big improvement from Sunday's performance though, batting first might help too if they win the toss.

Sounds great....
Can't see those two stepping aside for others though.

Dropping them would take a way plenty of quality batting from our middle order. I'd say if we win this one and the series becomes a dead rubber then a few blokes (clarke, ponting, hussey, watson) will be given a rest to freshen up for the series against West Indies.

Surely Harris isn't even next in line from Queensland alone. Rimmington and even Cutting are better prospects. Not to mention about 8 other bowlers around the country too. Weird. Siddle injured is a better option.

but Siddle injured could lead to a major injury.
If he is strained rest him.
The selectors have a really annoying pecking order, Harris has being selected before so they consider him next in line.

They can rest players after the series has been won. Don't want to go messing with a stable and successful lineup at this stage.

The question basically is;
Can Pakistan win a match before this series is over.
This may be their best chance, if they can win the toss (again) but this time bat first and use their spin options later tonight.
Australia will win if they bat first, Pakistan's only hope is to bat first and pressure Australia into a loss.
Can't see it happening though, Aussies might sweep this series.

Yeh bout time. They need to keep up the strike rate.

He was probably facing a bowler of sub-standard quality who inexplicably contiunes to get games.
tbh.
I've never understood why Marsh is so complacent when playing for Australia yet he seems more attacking when playing for WA?
He's shown he's capable of playing aggressively and not reckless, why doesn't he bring to the Australian team?

Better bowling perhaps? Also it takes time for players to become as confident in international cricket as they are in domestic cricket.
Important couple of wickets for Pakistan but I can still see Australia racking up a big score here and then skittling Pakistan like they did in Sydney.
Yeah now is not the time for a responsible innings.

Yeah now is not the time for a responsible innings.
He only knows how to bat one way. He could come in at 2/300 and still waste overs. Not a one day batsman. And he has the tendency to run blokes out too.

Well he almost unconsolidated it there. Terrible throw after an even worse call.

He almost always keeps the strike rate up. Just because he doesn't hit a lot of boundaries people think he slows things down, but he doesn't.
marsh is playing well i hope he racks up a few more runs here to silence the critics.

clarke to single-single-single his way to the death overs this time or get out not long after i type this?
Aren't people tired of complaining about this yet? It's the way the 50 overs game is played. Hit over the top for the first 15 overs, and then the captain throws the field back allowing for plenty of single and twos. While they are running 5+ each over, the scoreboard is ticking. It must confuse the hell out of 20/20 fans who think any ball that isn't hit for 6 is bad cricket.
ImaLetUFinish
26 Jan 2010, 14:34
clarke to single-single-single his way to the death overs this time or get out not long after i type this?
Yeah clarke will just buggerise around for another 5-10 overs and then go out, putting white under pressure to come in and hit out from ball one. Of course, white will then be criticised if he doesn't score a 50 from the last 10 overs. Thanks clarke, an absolute waste of space.

As much as a snooze fest this is, at least they aren't losing wickets which is the important thing and setting themselves up nicely for a dash at the end. Hopefully SOS can get his second one day century.

not a complaint about how the game is played... look at me defend 50 over cricket in other threads. i'm interested in seeing what clarke does if he has to hit out seeing as other people always say he can only hit singles.
