PLAPP JOINS HAWKS AS DEVELOPMENT COACH

Rising up to VFL ranks, Justin Plapp will take over Box Hill’s second string side for the 2010 season.
Plapp will take the reigns over from Dale Bower, who moves to the EFL to coach Scoresby, in Bower’s greatest coaching challenge yet.

Once called the “King of Tasmanian Football” by The Mercury’s “Darryn Perry”, Plapp is held in high regard as both a player and coach.

Plapp is a most inspiring player and leader of his warriors, known for sensational marking in his playing days. Leadership is a key to Plapp’s make-up; while on-field his goal kicking ability is well-known for slotting majors at important times.

Sounds like a fantastic appointment welcome aboard Plapp.....:thumbsu:

Good appointment. Plapp is a highly respected player and coach down here.

I had heard that he was unlikely to play for BH due to the condition of his knees, but he does seem keen to return (who would want to finish their career on such a sour note, after missing the after-the-siren goal that would have put Burnie in the GF).

I reckon a mid season return for Box Hill could bring the Stangers the sort of leadership afforded by Marco Bello last year.

THE Box Hill Hawks have baulked at a $15,000 transfer fee being demanded for former Burnie coach Justin Plapp.
Plapp has joined Box Hill as a development coach and is hoping to continue his playing career in the VFL.
But he maintains the transfer fee being sought by Burnie is excessive and his playing future with Box Hill remains up in the air.
"I'm 32 years of age and whether I can play VFL football will be determined by the state of my body," he said.
"It is not as though I'm 28 and going to the VFL with three or four years of good footy ahead of me," he said.
Box Hill
has refused Burnie's initial demand and negotiations are continuing between the two clubs and Plapp remains hopeful some common ground can be reached.
Plapp said he expected to know by the end of the month if he will be playing for Box Hill and he hasn't given up the thought of returning to Tasmania each weekend and playing with a club in the NTFL.
Latrobe coach Dale Perry has already been in talks with Plapp and he indicated yesterday he had also been approached by Wynyard.
"It's all hypothetical at this stage about me playing in Tasmania, I'll know more at the end of the month," he said.
If Plapp does return to play NTFL football it will be a huge boost for the competition which is starting to regain stride after being reduced to just six clubs in 2009.
The NTFL has appointed Steven Mooney from Ulverstone as its new administrative officer.
Mooney replaces Ian Wotherspoon who stood down from the role in October last year.

Plapp's Box Hill deal done

THE Burnie Dockers and Box Hill have agreed on a transfer for Justin Plapp.

The former AFL player and Burnie Dockers coach of the past two seasons will have a coaching and possibly a playing role at Hawthorn's VFL affiliate.
"We will accept staggered payments through the year if and when Justin plays for Box Hill," Burnie president Peter Vincent said, adding that the original asking price for Plapp had been dictated by the AFL guidelines for a player transfer from a tier two league (TSL) to a tier one league (VFL).
