Happy to not see 'Avatar' in the Screenplay noms.

10 Best Picture nods is too many, kinda devalues it.

Also Morgan Freeman has been gifted a nod for 'Invictus' - I love the man's work but he barely got out of 1st gear for that role.

Yeah, Mo'nique is the frontrunner for Supporting Actress.

Bullock looks to be gaining momentum for Best Actress, especuially since 'The Blind Side' got a Best Picture Nom.

Amazing how the TV news keep saying Aussies were "snubbed" but there are nominations for make up etc. Fair dinkum, Australian's don't really care if an Aussie is nominated!

The Best Picture race is somewhat open but the rest look very likely to be one-way contests. The Blind Side as a Best Picture nominee is ridiculous.

I can understand the 'Moon' snub for Best Picture as the academy very rarely rewards sci-fi and they already have 'Avatar' and 'District 9' in there, but Sam Rockwell should have got a nod ahead of Morgan Freeman.

Is there any actual reason for 10 films being nominated?? Looks effing ridiculous imo...

These awards will test the credibility of The Academy this year.

Avatar was a revolutionary movie in terms of technical innovation, but overall it is definitely not Best Movie material. The special effects were mind blowing, but the screenplay and overall story was bland at best, cliche at worst.

It is in response to the falling ratings - apparently it is trying to increase interest (because with 5 films, there is usually a clear favourite) and something about selecting films which attract a mainstream audience (i.e. the Avatar's of the world vs the arthouse films no one ever sees).

Which is why Avatar will clean up, even if it doesn't deserve it. (I haven't seen it so I can't judge)

avatar @ $1.50 would have to be the lay of the decade, basterds has a better chance.

(And Avatar certinaly aint that fantastic.. dunno what everyone was raving about)

Not sure how nominating more films really changes anything. There will still be clear favourites, in this case Avatar. Probably just means there will be more films just making up the numbers.

Christoph Waltz has to be the safest bet for Best Supporting Actor (reflected by the $1.05 odds), the other nominees may as well not bother turning up.

you'd think so, waltz would be around a 99% chance to win, harrelson a 1% chance, and the rest 0%.

Woah I'm definitely putting some money on Inglorious Basterds. Maybe even The Hurt Locker. I think Kathryn Bigelow is just as much a lock as Bridges, Monique and Waltz so that could be worth something too.

This year? How bout every year. The whole thing is a complete crock. Makes Shane Woewodin's Brownlow look credible.

Spot on. Rockwell was in pretty much every seen and his performance was outstanding. He would quietly be pissed but then again he seems like someone who couldn't give a shit about awards.

Faultless in his performance as a high flying exec. True depiction of the modern white collar worker and showed some acting skills I didnt think he had in him to be honest.
