End of an era at Adelaide Oval, and big shoes to fill.

Maybe now we'll get a pitch with something in it for the bowlers?

Amazing how fast people forget tests. Short attention span of this current society is so sad.
Something with a bit of pace and bounce would help both bowlers and batsman. The wicket has bee like Karachi the last 10 years.

In fairness, Burdett arguably did his job a bit too well - although the climate is no doubt more conducive to flat wickets than elsewhere.
The Adelaide oval has been a good wicket.
Good for batting for three days but deteroites well too. If he had too much moisture for the bowlers early in Adelaide the wicket would would dry and deteriorate later possibly making days 4 and 5 too good for batting.
He made the wicket for the climate that he had and did a very very good job.
A job well done to the man and heres hoping he enjoys his retirement.
Look no further than the transport works department for a replacement. They are just as adept at preparing roads.

If you are denying the Adelaide oval is a batting paradise then you are kidding yourself.
3 draws in the last 13 matches, over 12 years. data (http://stats.cricinfo.com/australia/engine/records/team/match_results.html?class=1;id=131;type=ground)
going by that it was much more of a road in the 80's which is when the idea of it being a batting paradise probably became entrenched.
waca, 2 draws in the same time, despite its well known bounce (apparently disappearing).
gabba, 3 draws like adelaide in 12 years. batting paradise?
what is the qualification for a road anyway? i know that less draws don't mean it's not a batting paradise, but this idea of it being a road doesn't look like it's actually grounded in anything. it could easily be the superiority of our batsmen vs. the shittiness of the other teams bowlers.
5 draws in 9 matches (http://stats.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/team/match_results.html?class=1;id=1015;type=ground)
5 draws in 10 (http://stats.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/team/match_results.html?class=1;id=840;type=ground)

2 draws out of the past 3 years though, when Australia's attack fell back to the pack.

There we go.
Was a fine pitch, when Australia had a superstar bowling line up.
The WACA is just as bad, it's horribly doctored for Test matches.
i don't know... it seems a bit odd to call pitches a road just because the bowlers aren't as good. as soon as you admit the bowlers aren't as good you already admit the batsmen will perform well. i'd be looking at the degradation and what happens during various times of the match. i'm no curator but ie, bit of moisture at the start, bit of rough at the end. if the bowlers can't exploit those things then it's not really fair to call it a road. if those things are absent then it's a much better call. i don't seem to recall much greenness/moisture, it has to be said.
at this point i'm just confusing myself so will leave the discussion. i think it's fair to say that australian pitches don't offer much green in the beginning.
